2026-08-13 | π¦ What Are You Hiding? God’s Cleansing Grace | Ezekiel 39 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to reveal anything in your life that needs to be cleansed, and thank him for making you clean through the blood of Jesus Christ.
2. π August 13, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
God judges everything that opposes him, cleanses what sin has defiled, and calls those whom he has redeemed to live holy lives that display his glory.
3. ✝️ Ezekiel 39:11-20
The LORD will judge Gog and his hordes in Israel and give them the Valley of Hamon-gog for burial. For seven months, Israel will bury the dead and search for every remaining bone to cleanse the land. This will display God’s glory and bring his people honor. God summons birds and beasts to feast on rulers, warriors, horses, and armies, revealing the total downfall of those who opposed him.
4. π Key Verse
Thus shall they cleanse the land (v. 16b).
5. π Reflection
When our children were young, getting them to wash after playing outside was a major undertaking. No matter how often we told them to take off their dirty clothes, shower, put on clean clothes, and only then sit on the sofa or lie on the bed, they kept forgetting. We even taught them about germs, infection, and the importance of hygiene because we believed that washing their hands and bodies was essential for protecting their health.
Then something changed. Without being reminded, the children began washing their hands, changing their clothes, and taking showers on their own. They even started carrying hand sanitizer. This happened in 2020, when COVID-19 spread throughout the world. At first, many thought it was similar to a common cold, but the number of people becoming severely ill and dying after infection increased rapidly. Schools and workplaces closed, social gatherings were canceled, and the whole world was gripped by fear. People were advised to avoid going out and, when they had to leave home, to wash their hands thoroughly and change their clothes afterward. The pandemic made the entire world keenly aware of the importance of cleanliness.
God led the Israelites into the Promised Land and enabled them to possess it. Yet the Israelites themselves defiled the land. They worshiped idols, committed all kinds of evil, and disobeyed God. As a result, the land that should have remained holy and clean became unclean. God judged the defiled land and revealed once again the holiness of his name, which had been profaned among the nations.
Today’s passage, however, shows that the land will be cleansed again. When God brings down Israel’s enemies, the Israelites will spend seven months burying their bodies and bones in order to cleanse the land. God will summon the birds and wild animals to his table of judgment to consume the bodies of his enemies. Through this, the powers that opposed God will be judged completely, and the defiled land will be made clean. God will reveal his glory and take the initiative in restoring Israel after judgment.
Beloved brothers and sisters, it is entirely fitting for God’s redeemed children to glorify their heavenly Father through good works. God has cleansed us from sin through the blood that Jesus Christ shed on the cross. Therefore, when a redeemed child of God persists in evil, that person lives in a manner unworthy of such grace. Those who have been cleansed by God’s grace and given a place at his table must live holy and pure lives. May we never defile again what God has cleansed, but keep our bodies, hearts, and lives pure and glorify him in all we do.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- What sinful habit, unhealthy attitude, or hidden compromise have I been ignoring?
- Is there an area of my life that I have not fully surrendered to God?
- Am I pursuing holiness to earn God’s acceptance, or because I have already received his grace?
- Is something good, such as my career, relationship, phone, or personal ambition, taking God’s rightful place in my life?
- What is one practical step I can take today to live as someone Christ has cleansed?
7. π Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for cleansing me from sin through the blood of Jesus Christ.
Forgive me for hiding, excusing, or returning to the sins from which You have rescued me.
Search my heart and reveal anything in my life that does not honor You.
Help me surrender every part of my life to Your authority and live with integrity both in public and in private.
May my choices, relationships, words, habits, and priorities reflect Your holiness and bring glory to Your name.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (Ezekiel 39:11-20, ESV).
11 “On that day I will give to Gog a place for burial in Israel, the Valley of the Travelers, east of the sea. It will block the travelers, for there Gog and all his multitude will be buried. It will be called the Valley of Hamon-gog. 12 For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them, in order to cleanse the land. 13 All the people of the land will bury them, and it will bring them renown on the day that I show my glory, declares the Lord GOD. 14 They will set apart men to travel through the land regularly and bury those travelers remaining on the face of the land, so as to cleanse it. At the end of seven months they will make their search. 15 And when these travel through the land and anyone sees a human bone, then he shall set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the Valley of Hamon-gog. 16 (Hamonah is also the name of the city.) Thus shall they cleanse the land.
17 “As for you, son of man, thus says the Lord GOD: Speak to the birds of every sort and to all beasts of the field: ‘Assemble and come, gather from all around to the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you, a great sacrificial feast on the mountains of Israel, and you shall eat flesh and drink blood. 18 You shall eat the flesh of the mighty, and drink the blood of the princes of the earth—of rams, of lambs, and of he-goats, of bulls, all of them fat beasts of Bashan. 19 And you shall eat fat till you are filled, and drink blood till you are drunk, at the sacrificial feast that I am preparing for you. 20 And you shall be filled at my table with horses and charioteers, with mighty men and all kinds of warriors,’ declares the Lord GOD.
