7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you prepare your heart for worship and approach him with holiness, joy, and reverence.

2. πŸ“… September 25, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

True worship requires more than good intentions or physical attendance. We prepare ourselves to worship God by approaching him with sincere hearts and obeying his Word.

3. ✝️ 1 Chronicles 15:1-15

David prepared a place and tent for the ark and gathered Israel in Jerusalem. Recognizing that the LORD had struck them because they had not sought him according to his rule, David commanded the priests and Levites to consecrate themselves. They obeyed, carrying the ark on their shoulders with poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LO

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel (v. 14).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Saturday afternoon was the busiest yet most precious time of the week for my grandmother. She washed and ironed the clothes that the entire family would wear the next day. She also prepared the cleanest bills she could find for the offering to God. She made sure there was warm water so that everyone, from my grandfather to the youngest grandchild, could bathe. After completing all the preparations and putting everyone to bed, she prepared her own body and heart with care.

All this work was done so that the entire family could go to church together on Sunday morning. As I remember her, she joyfully carried out all these demanding tasks without complaint. She faithfully repeated this preparation every week for decades.

In today’s QT passage, David carefully prepares to bring the ark of the LORD back to the City of David. He pitches a tent for the ark, confirms the regulations for transporting it, and gathers the Levites whom God had chosen to carry it on their shoulders. He also reflects on the mistake made during the previous attempt and explains the proper way the LORD had commanded them to proceed.

The priests and Levites then consecrate themselves so that they may carry the ark of God. They prepare to carry it on their shoulders with poles, just as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LORD. David and the Levites do not attempt to accomplish God’s work with good intentions alone. They seek to bring the ark according to God’s command and in obedience to his prescribed way.

Dear brothers and sisters, how do we approach the place of worship? Do we regard careful preparation for worship, like my grandmother’s, as excessive or old-fashioned? If so, how are we preparing our bodies, hearts, and lives in holiness as we come before God in worship?

Jesus spoke about worship to the Samaritan woman he met at the well:
“The hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (John 4:23–24).

God is still seeking those who worship him in spirit and truth. Worship is not merely a religious event that we attend at an appointed time. It is a sacred occasion for which we prepare our bodies, hearts, and lives so that we may encounter and exalt God. May you take this word to heart, obey it, and prepare for worship with joy and reverence.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I merely attend worship, or do I intentionally prepare to worship God?
  • What usually distracts my heart and mind during worship?
  • Am I relying on sincere intentions while ignoring something God has clearly said in his Word?
  • Is there a sin I need to confess or a relationship in which I should seek peace?
  • How can my preparation help me worship God and encourage others more faithfully?
  • What is one practical step I can take before my next worship service?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for inviting me into Your presence through Jesus Christ.

Forgive me for the times I have treated worship as a routine or approached You with a distracted and unprepared heart.

Help me remember that sincere intentions cannot replace obedience to Your Word.

Prepare my body, mind, and heart to worship You with joy, holiness, and reverence.

May my worship honor You and encourage others to seek You.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– (1 Chronicles 15:1-15, ESV).

1 David built houses for himself in the city of David. And he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it. 2 Then David said that no one but the Levites may carry the ark of God, for the LORD had chosen them to carry the ark of the LORD and to minister to him forever. 3 And David assembled all Israel at Jerusalem to bring up the ark of the LORD to its place, which he had prepared for it. 4 And David gathered together the sons of Aaron and the Levites: 5 of the sons of Kohath, Uriel the chief, with 120 of his brothers; 6 of the sons of Merari, Asaiah the chief, with 220 of his brothers; 7 of the sons of Gershom, Joel the chief, with 130 of his brothers; 8 of the sons of Elizaphan, Shemaiah the chief, with 200 of his brothers; 9 of the sons of Hebron, Eliel the chief, with 80 of his brothers; 10 of the sons of Uzziel, Amminadab the chief, with 112 of his brothers. 11 Then David summoned the priests Zadok and Abiathar, and the Levites Uriel, Asaiah, Joel, Shemaiah, Eliel, and Amminadab, 12 and said to them, “You are the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites. Consecrate yourselves, you and your brothers, so that you may bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel, to the place that I have prepared for it. 13 Because you did not carry it the first time, the LORD our God broke out against us, because we did not seek him according to the rule.” 14 So the priests and the Levites consecrated themselves to bring up the ark of the LORD, the God of Israel. 15 And the Levites carried the ark of God on their shoulders with the poles, as Moses had commanded according to the word of the LORD.
