7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you see every person in your church community through his eyes and to remember that no one he loves is unimportant.

2. πŸ“… September 19, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

God does not treat faithful people as “etc.” He knows them by name, values their service, and uses their faithful participation to accomplish his purposes.

3. ✝️ 1 Chronicles 11:20-47

Abishai killed 300 men and became commander of the thirty, though he did not attain to the three. Benaiah defeated two Moabite heroes, a lion in a snowy pit, and a towering Egyptian, so David placed him over his bodyguard. The passage then names David’s other mighty men, a diverse company drawn from various tribes, regions, and peoples who stood with him and helped establish his kingdom.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

The mighty men were … (v. 26a).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

In Korean, the expression “and so on” is extremely useful. When listing several things, we can mention a few important ones first and then shorten the rest with “and so on.” Of course, if time and space allow, we could record every detail. However, when both the speaker and the listener consider certain information unnecessary, we often conclude the list with “and so on.” The English abbreviation “etc.” serves a similar purpose.

Today’s passage continues the list of warriors who supported David. This list appears in 1 Chronicles 11:10-47, and much of it parallels 2 Samuel 23:8-39. However, beginning in verse 26, the passage occasionally mentions a person’s hometown or position, but for the most part, it simply lists names and backgrounds without explaining the specific deeds that earned these men recognition as mighty warriors.

Modern readers may therefore feel tempted to skip over this passage. We might even wonder whether all these names could have been shortened to “and many others” or simply “etc.” Yet the Chronicler carefully records each warrior’s name, even adding names that do not appear in the parallel account in 2 Samuel. Why would he preserve all these names so carefully?

Dear brothers and sisters, we may easily assume that only a few outstanding warriors played decisive roles in helping David establish his kingdom. Yet today’s passage shows us that David’s kingdom was established not only through a handful of celebrated heroes but also through the faithful participation of many people from different regions and backgrounds. Some of their specific achievements are not recorded, but their names nevertheless remain clearly preserved in God’s Word.

Therefore, if there is someone in your church community whom you consider unimportant or unnecessary and have consequently neglected, today is the day to change your perspective. Remember how deeply Jesus loves that person. Then follow the love of Christ by approaching that person first and offering a warm word of encouragement. That person is never a nameless individual hidden within “etc.” He or she is a son or daughter whom God personally knows and dearly loves.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I measure people by their popularity, position, personality, or visible accomplishments?
  • Is there someone in my church community whom I have overlooked or treated as unimportant?
  • How can I recognize and encourage someone whose faithful service often goes unnoticed?
  • Am I discouraged because my own service feels invisible? How does this passage change my perspective?
  • What is one practical way I can show someone today, “I see you, and you matter”?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for knowing each of Your children by name.

Forgive me for judging people by their popularity, position, personality, or accomplishments.

Help me recognize those whom I have overlooked and love them as Jesus does.

Teach me to serve humbly and to encourage others warmly.

May no one in my church community ever become “etc.” to me.

Amen.
