7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you meet him through his Word and respond with prayer and praise.

2. πŸ“… September 12, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

Quiet Time is not simply consuming Christian content. It is daily worship in which we cry out to God, listen to his Word, trust his salvation, and respond with praise.

3. ✝️ Psalm 119:169-176

The psalmist asks God to hear his cry, grant understanding, and deliver him according to his word. Taught by God’s statutes, he longs to praise and sing of his righteous commands. Having chosen God’s precepts, he seeks his helping hand and delights in his law. He asks God to preserve his life and seek him like a lost sheep, affirming that he has not forgotten God’s commandments.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

My lips will pour forth praise, for you teach me your statutes (v. 171).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

One of the most common misunderstandings about praise is that it is merely a song intended to support worship or a process for creating a solemn atmosphere. This misunderstanding sometimes leads us to use expressions such as “preparatory praise” or to depend too heavily on musical techniques designed to stir people’s emotions. Praise, however, is not simply a means of preparing for worship. It is itself an act of worship offered to God. When we understand this truth, we can stop treating praise as a secondary part of worship.

Today’s passage is the twenty-second and final stanza of Psalm 119. In this concluding stanza, the psalmist emphasizes the expression “according to your word” twice in succession. His cry and earnest plea are grounded in the hope that God will grant him understanding and deliver him according to his word.

In this confidence, the psalmist chooses to respond with praise. Because the Lord teaches him his statutes, he praises God with his lips. Because all God’s commandments are righteous, he sings of God’s word with his tongue. He also asks God to preserve his life so that his soul may praise him.

As we meditate on the psalmist’s confession, we discover the essence of worship, even though the word “worship” does not directly appear in today’s passage. What is worship if it is not learning God’s word, experiencing his salvation, and praising him with our lips, tongues, and souls?

Dear brothers and sisters, Quiet Time is not simply the act of reading a blog post or watching a YouTube video. Quiet Time is personal worship that we offer to God each day. Therefore, a QT note is not merely devotional material. It is a guide to worship that brings together prayer, praise, and the Word of God.

Each day, as I prepare these QT notes, I first offer my own worship to God. Through these notes, I hope that you, too, will worship God wherever you are. May you be able to confess with the psalmist, even in the midst of every circumstance, “I do not forget your commandments” (v. 176).

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I treat praise merely as preparation for worship, or do I recognize it as an act of worship?
  • Is my understanding of worship shaped more by music and emotion or by who God is and what he has spoken?
  • When I feel anxious or uncertain, do I anchor my prayers in God’s Word?
  • During my Quiet Time, am I truly meeting with God or merely consuming Christian content?
  • What truth from God’s Word can I remember and praise him for today?
  • What is one practical way I can make my Quiet Time an act of worship this week?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for hearing my cries and teaching me through Your Word.

Forgive me for treating worship as merely a feeling, a musical experience, or a part of a church service.

Teach me to praise You because Your Word is true and all Your ways are righteous.

Help me anchor my prayers in Your Word and trust Your faithfulness when life feels uncertain.

May my daily Quiet Time become sincere worship filled with Your Word, prayer, praise, and obedience.

Amen.
