7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to show you how he has gifted you to serve others and help build up the body of Christ.

2. πŸ“… August 30, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

God does not intend for his community to depend on the dedication of a faithful few. He calls all his people to participate and share responsibility according to the gifts and opportunities he has given them.

3. ✝️ Ezekiel 48:15-22

The remaining land is designated for the city, its dwellings, and open country. Its produce will feed the city’s workers, who will come from all the tribes of Israel to cultivate it. God commands Israel to set apart the holy portion together with the city’s property. The land on both sides belongs to the prince, while the sanctuary remains at the center, between Judah and Benjamin.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

And the workers of the city, from all the tribes of Israel, shall till it (v. 19).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

The Pareto principle is commonly known as the “80/20 rule.” It suggests that approximately 80 percent of outcomes come from about 20 percent of causes. Of course, this is neither a law of nature nor an unchanging rule. Still, it effectively describes how, in many societies and organizations, a small group of active members carries a significant portion of the work necessary to keep things running.

Interestingly, we can observe a similar pattern in the church. Some believers serve actively and faithfully, while others have not yet discovered their gifts and roles or are unable to participate fully because of their circumstances. Dedicated believers willingly offer their time, energy, and even financial resources to the church. They consider serving God’s church a great joy and privilege.

However, such committed believers are often a minority. In smaller churches especially, ministry responsibilities can easily become concentrated among only a few members. As a result, these believers may carry excessive burdens or even face misunderstanding and criticism simply because they are highly involved. Eventually, some become exhausted and hurt, and tragically, they may even leave the church.

In today’s QT passage, God designates part of the entire contribution of land for the city’s dwellings and open country. The produce from the remaining land to the east and west is to provide food for the city’s workers. Significantly, God does not limit these workers to one particular tribe. Instead, they are to come from all the tribes of Israel to serve the city and cultivate its land.

This shows that the community God restores is not sustained by one particular group or a small number of people. Every tribe participates in the city established around God’s presence, sharing responsibility for the life of the community. From this passage, we learn that the church today should not depend solely on the dedication of a faithful few.

Dear brothers and sisters, the church is not a community in which all ministry and responsibility are placed upon a small group of passionate believers. The church is the body of Christ, which all believers are called to build up together by serving one another according to the gifts and roles God has given them. Instead of waiting for someone else to serve the church, consider what you can do for the church of Jesus today. May you joyfully use your God-given gifts and help build up the body of Christ together.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I treat the church mainly as a place I attend, or as a community I am called to help build?
  • Am I expecting a small group of people to carry most of the church’s ministry?
  • What gift, resource, experience, or opportunity has God given me to serve others?
  • Is there a faithful church member whom I can encourage, support, or help before that person becomes exhausted?
  • What is one practical step I can take this week to help build up the body of Christ?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for making me a member of the body of Christ.

Forgive me for the times I have waited for others to serve instead of asking how I could participate.

Show me the gifts, resources, and opportunities You have given me.

Help me use them joyfully, not for recognition, but out of love for Christ and His people.

May every member participate according to Your grace so that our church may become healthier, stronger, and more loving.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– (Ezekiel 48:15-22, ESV).

15 “The remainder, 5,000 cubits in breadth and 25,000 in length, shall be for common use for the city, for dwellings and for open country. In the midst of it shall be the city, 16 and these shall be its measurements: the north side 4,500 cubits, the south side 4,500, the east side 4,500, and the west side 4,500. 17 And the city shall have open land: on the north 250 cubits, on the south 250, on the east 250, and on the west 250. 18 The remainder of the length alongside the holy portion shall be 10,000 cubits to the east, and 10,000 to the west, and it shall be alongside the holy portion. Its produce shall be food for the workers of the city. 19 And the workers of the city, from all the tribes of Israel, shall till it. 20 The whole portion that you shall set apart shall be 25,000 cubits square, that is, the holy portion together with the property of the city.
21 “What remains on both sides of the holy portion and of the property of the city shall belong to the prince. Extending from the 25,000 cubits of the holy portion to the east border, and westward from the 25,000 cubits to the west border, parallel to the tribal portions, it shall belong to the prince. The holy portion with the sanctuary of the temple shall be in its midst. 22 It shall be separate from the property of the Levites and the property of the city, which are in the midst of that which belongs to the prince. The portion of the prince shall lie between the territory of Judah and the territory of Benjamin.
