2026-08-29 | ⛪ Is Church More Than a Social Club? | Ezekiel 48 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you see the church not as a social club or fandom, but as a holy community that belongs to Christ.
2. π August 29, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
The church is precious not because of what it offers us, but because it belongs to Christ and has been set apart for God’s holy purposes.
3. ✝️ Ezekiel 48:1–14
From the northern extreme, Dan, Asher, Naphtali, Manasseh, Ephraim, Reuben, and Judah each receive a portion from east to west. Beside Judah is the portion set apart for the LORD, with his sanctuary in its midst. The faithful sons of Zadok and the Levites receive holy allotments that must not be sold, exchanged, or alienated, for the land is holy to the LORD.
4. π Key Verse
”They shall not sell or exchange any of it. They shall not alienate this choice portion of the land, for it is holy to the LORD” (v. 14).
5. π Reflection
Merchandise, often called “goods,” has become extremely popular among younger generations. It refers to souvenirs or products associated with a particular person, brand, or creative work. By owning such items, people express what they love and value while forming bonds with others who share the same interests. Some willingly pay high prices to obtain the merchandise they want, while others treasure certain items so deeply that they would not sell them for any amount of money.
As I observed this modern cultural trend, a rather unusual thought came to mind. What if churches created and sold merchandise as a sign that someone has been saved through faith in the name of Jesus Christ? Would it sell well? If only those who owned the same merchandise gathered together, would the church community become closer and more strongly connected? Would church members cherish and love their church enough to purchase its merchandise?
After describing the distribution of the land among the tribes of Israel, today’s QT passage presents special regulations for the priests and Levites who would live in the land set apart as holy. They were not allowed to sell, exchange, or transfer this choice portion of land to anyone else. Why was this prohibited? It was because the land was holy to the LORD.
Dear brothers and sisters, in the New Testament era, we no longer have a particular geographical territory designated as holy land. However, the church, which Jesus Christ purchased with his own blood, is a community set apart as holy to God. Do we, then, believe that the church is a holy community belonging to God and treasure it accordingly? Is our church connected by a bond of love that is deeper and more intimate than that of a fan club or a group formed around shared merchandise?
The church is a community of believers who have received salvation, the most precious gift given by God’s grace. Therefore, we should love and cherish one another, putting the love and justice of our holy God into practice. Today, I earnestly pray that our church will be firmly established as a holy community belonging to the LORD our God.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Do I treasure my church because it belongs to Christ, or only when it meets my needs and preferences?
- Is my relationship with other believers deeper than my connection to a fandom, online community, or social group?
- Is there someone in my church whom I need to encourage, forgive, or serve?
- What is one practical action I can take this week to strengthen the love and unity of my church?
- How can my church make God’s holiness, love, and justice more visible in our community?
7. π Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for saving us by Your grace and bringing us into the community of Your people.
Forgive me for treating the church as something disposable or valuing it only when it meets my needs.
Help me treasure the church because it belongs to Christ and has been set apart for Your holy purposes.
May our church become a holy community where the world can clearly see Your grace, love, and justice.
Amen.

8 “Adjoining the territory of Judah, from the east side to the west, shall be the portion which you shall set apart, 25,000 cubits in breadth, and in length equal to one of the tribal portions, from the east side to the west, with the sanctuary in the midst of it. 9 The portion that you shall set apart for the LORD shall be 25,000 cubits in length, and 20,000 in breadth. 10 These shall be the allotments of the holy portion: the priests shall have an allotment measuring 25,000 cubits on the northern side, 10,000 cubits in breadth on the western side, 10,000 in breadth on the eastern side, and 25,000 in length on the southern side, with the sanctuary of the LORD in the midst of it. 11 This shall be for the consecrated priests, the sons of Zadok, who kept my charge, who did not go astray when the people of Israel went astray, as the Levites did. 12 And it shall belong to them as a special portion from the holy portion of the land, a most holy place, adjoining the territory of the Levites. 13 And alongside the territory of the priests, the Levites shall have an allotment 25,000 cubits in length and 10,000 in breadth. The whole length shall be 25,000 cubits and the breadth 20,000. 14 They shall not sell or exchange any of it. They shall not alienate this choice portion of the land, for it is holy to the LORD.
