2026-08-27 | π Have You Seen What God Is Doing? | Ezekiel 47 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to open your eyes so that you can recognize his life-giving and restoring work in you and around you.
2. π August 27, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
God’s life-giving work may begin like a small stream, but wherever his presence flows, death gives way to life, barrenness becomes fruitful, and healing begins.
3. ✝️ Ezekiel 47:1-12
Water flowed eastward from beneath the temple threshold and grew into a river too deep to cross. When it entered the sea, the water became fresh, and everything lived wherever the river went. Many fish filled the sea, and trees grew on both banks. Because their water flowed from the sanctuary, they bore fresh fruit every month. Their fruit was for food and their leaves for healing.
4. π Key Verse
And he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?” (v. 6a)
5. π Reflection
Generally, we do not easily recognize changes that take place gradually. When a dramatic change occurs within a short period, we notice it immediately. However, the small changes that occur as wild plants in the yard slowly grow and blossom are not so easy to see. Only when a sprout emerges from the ground or a flower opens fully do we realize that change has been taking place all along.
Recognizing change in a person or an organization is even more difficult. Unless we pay close attention every day, we often notice the change only after a long time, when visible results appear like flowers or fruit. Change can be especially difficult to recognize in someone close to us or in a community to which we belong. Because we are always nearby and deeply familiar with them, we may not notice the change until much later.
Ezekiel saw water flowing eastward from beneath the temple threshold, south of the altar. As the water continued to flow, it grew progressively deeper until it became a river that no one could cross on foot. Then the man holding the measuring line asked Ezekiel:
“Son of man, have you seen this?”
This question asks whether Ezekiel truly saw and understood God’s work of life and restoration unfolding before his eyes. The Promised Land, which had been defiled by sin and disobedience, was now being revived and healed by the water of life flowing from the holy God. The question God asked Ezekiel is also addressed to us today.
Beloved brothers and sisters, we must see the small stream flowing from the temple become an uncrossable river. We must carefully observe how everything that was dead comes to life wherever the water flows. We must pay attention to God’s work as the sea is restored and countless living creatures flourish. God performs wonders and makes his power known among the nations. If we fail to recognize his amazing works, it may not be because God is not working, but because we are not watching carefully, reflecting deeply, or remembering what he has done (Ps. 77:11-12, 14).
Therefore, let us consider deeply what amazing work of God we need to see today. Let us recognize and give thanks for the life-giving changes that the holy God is bringing about in our lives, families, and churches. Then let us allow the abundant life God has given us to flow beyond us and into the world.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- What gradual, life-giving change has God been bringing about in me?
- What evidence of God’s restoring work can I see in my family, church, workplace, or school?
- How can the life God has given me flow toward someone who needs encouragement, forgiveness, prayer, or practical care?
- What is one specific action I can take today to bring God’s life and healing to someone else?
7. π Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for being the source of true life, healing, and restoration.
Forgive me for overlooking Your work because it seemed small, gradual, or incomplete.
Open my eyes so that I may recognize what You are doing in my life, family, church, and community.
Let my life bring Your healing and grace to every place You send me.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (Ezekiel 47:1-12, ESV).
1 Then he brought me back to the door of the temple, and behold, water was issuing from below the threshold of the temple toward the east (for the temple faced east). The water was flowing down from below the south end of the threshold of the temple, south of the altar. 2 Then he brought me out by way of the north gate and led me around on the outside to the outer gate that faces toward the east; and behold, the water was trickling out on the south side.
3 Going on eastward with a measuring line in his hand, the man measured a thousand cubits, and then led me through the water, and it was ankle-deep. 4 Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was knee-deep. Again he measured a thousand, and led me through the water, and it was waist-deep. 5 Again he measured a thousand, and it was a river that I could not pass through, for the water had risen. It was deep enough to swim in, a river that could not be passed through. 6 And he said to me, “Son of man, have you seen this?”
Then he led me back to the bank of the river. 7 As I went back, I saw on the bank of the river very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8 And he said to me, “This water flows toward the eastern region and goes down into the Arabah, and enters the sea; when the water flows into the sea, the water will become fresh. 9 And wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live, and there will be very many fish. For this water goes there, that the waters of the sea may become fresh; so everything will live where the river goes. 10 Fishermen will stand beside the sea. From Engedi to Eneglaim it will be a place for the spreading of nets. Its fish will be of very many kinds, like the fish of the Great Sea. 11 But its swamps and marshes will not become fresh; they are to be left for salt. 12 And on the banks, on both sides of the river, there will grow all kinds of trees for food. Their leaves will not wither, nor their fruit fail, but they will bear fresh fruit every month, because the water for them flows from the sanctuary. Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.”
