Today’s passage reminds us:
A steadfast heart is not a fearless heart, but a heart fixed on God in the middle of fear.
3. ✝️ Psalm 108:1-13
David sets his heart firmly on God and resolves to praise him among the nations. Because God’s steadfast love and faithfulness reach beyond the heavens, David asks God to save his beloved people. God declares his rule over the nations, and David confesses that human help is vain. With God, his people will act valiantly, for God will defeat their foes.

5. 📝 Reflection
Recently, I watched an animated film called David. Since it seemed to be made for a broad audience of children, the scene where David confronts Goliath was portrayed quite simply. This is one of the most dramatic moments in David’s story, and I found it engaging because the animation focused well on the moment when David’s stone struck Goliath down.
However, the battle between David and Goliath as Scripture presents it is not so simple. The army of Israel had drawn up for battle against the Philistines, yet their hearts were filled with fear. Even when Goliath insulted and mocked God, they did not know what to do. The battle already seemed as good as lost. At that very moment, David appeared. And just as the animation depicted, David struck down Goliath with a single sling stone.
When we speak of this scene, we often emphasize David’s courageous faith. Yet it is important to remember that we cannot simply assume David had no fear at all when he decided to face Goliath. David may also have felt fear. But he remembered the God who had delivered him from the lion and the bear. He was confident that the same God would deliver him from the hand of the enemy once again (1 Sam. 17:34-37).
Yes, David’s faith was not impulsive courage. It was bold faith rooted in the memory of God’s past grace. David fixed his heart, refusing to retreat before anyone who opposed God. He also trusted that victory belonged not to his own strength, but to the Lord. David had confidence in God’s victory. Therefore, even in the midst of fear, he was able to fix his heart on God.
Dear beloved saints, today we must also set our hearts on God. Even when the Philistine army stands before us, and even when Goliath seems to mock God, God is never powerless. He is the God of victory. With this God, we can be courageous. For it is not we who trample down our enemies, but God himself (Ps. 108:13).

7. 🙏 Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for being the God of steadfast love and faithfulness.
Remind me of the grace You have already shown me.
Help me to fix my heart on You, especially when fear feels strong.
With You, help me move forward courageously.
May my life declare that victory belongs to You.

1 My heart is steadfast, O God!
I will sing and make melody with all my being!
2 Awake, O harp and lyre!
I will awake the dawn!
3 I will give thanks to you, O LORD, among the peoples;
I will sing praises to you among the nations.
4 For your steadfast love is great above the heavens;
your faithfulness reaches to the clouds.
Let your glory be over all the earth!
6 That your beloved ones may be delivered,
give salvation by your right hand and answer me! 7 God has promised in his holiness:
“With exultation I will divide up Shechem
and portion out the Valley of Succoth.
