Today’s passage reminds us:

True wisdom begins with fearing the LORD, and a wise life is lived in obedience and praise to God.

3. ✝️ Psalm 111:1-10

The psalmist praises the LORD with his whole heart. God’s works are great, glorious, righteous, and remembered because He is gracious and merciful. He provides for those who fear Him, keeps His covenant forever, and redeems His people. His works and precepts are faithful and just. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and His praise endures forever.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding. His praise endures forever! (v. 10)

5. 📝 Reflection

What benefit does wisdom bring to our lives? If we are wise, will we live longer? Will we live healthier lives? Will we be happier? Many sayings and proverbs in the world emphasize the importance of wisdom and teach that a wise life can make life richer and fuller. Then, can a wise person live a more successful life?

Wisdom certainly benefits our lives. Generally speaking, a wise person avoids foolish choices, discerns the right path, and uses possessions, including wealth, in a good and upright way. Therefore, a wise person is more likely to live a stable and fruitful life than one who lacks wisdom. In this way, worldly wisdom is mainly concerned with the question, “How can I live life better?”

However, the wisdom the Bible speaks of is not merely a skill for living or a strategy for success. Scripture says, “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom” (v. 10). If worldly wisdom aims at success and personal benefit in life, biblical wisdom aims at knowing God and living according to His will. In other words, biblical wisdom does not ask, “How can I live the life I want?” but rather, “How can I live the life God desires?”

Beloved saints, a wise life is not simply a successful life; it is a life that fears the Lord. Those who fear God do not follow their own desires but follow the will of God. As a result, they enjoy the provision God gives, experience the grace of His covenant faithfulness, and see the power of His works. They also receive the inheritance God gives (vv. 5-6). In the end, wise people who fear the Lord will praise Him forever. May you live today as wise people who follow God’s commandments, possess good understanding, and praise our God.

  • Where do I usually look for wisdom: God’s Word, my own experience, social media, friends, or culture?
  • Am I asking, “How can I get what I want?” or “How can I live the life God desires?”
  • What is one decision today where I need to fear the LORD and obey His Word?

7. 🙏 Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for revealing true wisdom through Your Word.

Help me not to seek wisdom only for my own success, comfort, or benefit.

Teach me to fear You, trust Your character, and obey Your commandments.

Give me good understanding as I walk in Your ways today.

May my choices, words, and actions bring praise to You.

Amen.

1  Praise the LORD!
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart,
in the company of the upright, in the congregation.
2  Great are the works of the LORD,
studied by all who delight in them.
3  Full of splendor and majesty is his work,

4  He has caused his wondrous works to be remembered;
the LORD is gracious and merciful.
5  He provides food for those who fear him;
