πŸ›‘️ Feeling Betrayed or Forgotten? God Remembers You | Psalm 115 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you trust him as your unfailing help and shield, especially when people disappoint, misunderstand, or betray you.

2. πŸ“… July 12, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

People may disappoint us, but God remembers us and remains our faithful help and shield.

3. ✝️ Psalm 115:9-18

The psalmist calls Israel, Aaron’s house, and all who fear the LORD to trust him, for he is their help and shield. The LORD remembers his people and blesses both small and great, increasing them and their children. The Maker of heaven and earth owns the heavens and has given the earth to humanity. The dead cannot praise him, but the living will bless the LORD now and forever.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us (v. 12a).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

I, too, have been betrayed several times by people whom I trusted and relied upon. Many of those experiences occurred during my years in the workplace. Yet even after following God’s call to become a pastor, I encountered a similar experience.

Many years ago, a church member from the congregation I was serving planned to stay abroad for an extended period. In obedience to what this person believed God was saying, the member graciously offered my wife and me the use of the house free of charge. For the sake of clarity, I will refer to this person as Member A.

Because the house needed some minor repairs, Member A asked Member B, who attended the same church, to complete them. Member B was known as a highly skilled repairman, so Member A entrusted the work to him without suspicion. We were then told to receive the key from Member B once the repairs were completed.

However, no matter how long we waited, we received no word. When we finally contacted Member B, he told us that Member A had changed plans and rented the house to someone else. We were deeply surprised, but we believed that God must have had a purpose even in this situation. Therefore, we found another house to rent and moved there.

A considerable time later, we unexpectedly heard from Member C, who knew Member A well. Only then did we discover that Member B had deceived us.

Everything Member B had told us about Member A was false. In fact, he had also lied to Member A, claiming that my wife and I had changed our minds and moved elsewhere. Disappointed in us, Member A did not contact us to verify the story and instead considered renting the house to Member B. In the end, both Member A and my wife and I were deceived by someone we had trusted and relied upon, leaving us with a painful misunderstanding of one another.

Dear brothers and sisters, as you journey through life, you may experience situations even more painful than this. Indeed, there are very few people in this world whom we can trust completely. Even those we trust deeply can disappoint or betray us.

Yet the psalmist in Psalm 115 offers us hope. God remembers his people and comes to their aid. He is our help and our shield. Therefore, the one in whom we can place our complete trust is the LORD God alone.

Today, let us trust and praise the God who remembers and helps us. People may disappoint us, but God will never forget or abandon us. Our true help comes from the LORD alone. (Psalm 115:9-18)

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • When have I recently felt forgotten, misunderstood, or betrayed?
  • How has that experience affected my ability to trust other people or God?
  • Am I placing the weight of my ultimate trust on a person instead of on the LORD?
  • What would it look like for me to trust God as my help and shield today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for remembering me when I feel forgotten, overlooked, or misunderstood.

Heal the places in my heart that have been wounded by disappointment and betrayal.

Teach me to establish wise boundaries without allowing bitterness or fear to control my heart.

Help me place my deepest trust in You alone and praise You with the life You have given me.

You are my faithful help and shield.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– (Psalm 115:9-18, ESV).

9 O Israel, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
10 O house of Aaron, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
11 You who fear the LORD, trust in the LORD!
He is their help and their shield.
12 The LORD has remembered us; he will bless us;
he will bless the house of Israel;
he will bless the house of Aaron;
13 he will bless those who fear the LORD,
both the small and the great.
14 May the LORD give you increase,
you and your children!
15 May you be blessed by the LORD,
who made heaven and earth!
16 The heavens are the LORD’s heavens,
but the earth he has given to the children of man.
17 The dead do not praise the LORD,
nor do any who go down into silence.
18 But we will bless the LORD
from this time forth and forevermore.
Praise the LORD!
