π️ Use Your Gifts to Serve, Not to Show Off | 1 Corinthians 12 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you see that the gifts He gives are not for self-promotion, but for serving His people and building up the church.
2. π June 4, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit, not for personal pride, but for the common good of God’s people.
3. ✝️ 1 Corinthians 12:1-11
Paul wants the Corinthians to understand spiritual gifts rightly. By the Holy Spirit, believers confess that “Jesus is Lord,” and although there are varieties of gifts, services, and activities, the same triune God works through them all. The Spirit gives different gifts to each person as He wills for the common good of the church.
4. π Key Verse
To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good (v. 7).
5. π Reflection
In general, people with outstanding talents often have more opportunities for success, and many of them do, in fact, succeed. This is because talent itself can become an important foundation and tool for success. For this reason, people often envy those who are naturally gifted and invest much time and effort to become more capable, even if only through later training and discipline.
Then does a society become more prosperous simply because it has many talented people? Has civilization advanced because gifted individuals have made great contributions to society? Is there always a strong correlation between a good society and the presence of many talented people? Unfortunately, these are not questions that anyone can answer easily. History is not shaped only by a few exceptionally gifted individuals, but also by historical conditions, social structures, and the choices and participation of countless people. In other words, the presence of many talented people does not necessarily mean that a community will become more flourishing.
Beloved brothers and sisters, God reveals the Spirit to His children not so that they may achieve worldly success or receive human admiration. As Paul confesses in today’s passage, God distributes gifts to each person just as He wills. And these gifts are not given for personal pride or success, but for the benefit of God’s community, the church.
Today, are we joyfully using the talents and gifts God has given us for His community? Let us remember that the One who gives the Spirit is God, and the One who works through those gifts is also God. May you joyfully use the gifts you have received from Him, not for your own glory, but for the benefit of the church and the service of your neighbors.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Am I using my gifts to serve others, or mainly to receive recognition?
- Do I compare my gifts with someone else’s gifts?
- What gift, talent, or ability has God entrusted to me in this season?
- How can I use my gifts this week for the common good of the church?
7. π Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for giving gifts to Your people through the Holy Spirit.
Help me not to compare myself with others or use my gifts for my own pride.
Teach me to receive what You have given with gratitude and to use it with humility, joy, and love.
May my gifts serve Your church, bless my neighbors, and glorify Jesus Christ.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (1 Corinthians 12:1-11, ESV).
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brothers, I do not want you to be uninformed. 2 You know that when you were pagans you were led astray to mute idols, however you were led. 3 Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit. 4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; 5 and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; 6 and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. 7 To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. 8 For to one is given through the Spirit the utterance of wisdom, and to another the utterance of knowledge according to the same Spirit, 9 to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit, 10 to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another the ability to distinguish between spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues. 11 All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.
