Ask God to help you see how the resurrection of Jesus gives us true hope beyond this life.

Today’s passage reminds us:

If Christ has been raised, our faith is not empty, our sins are forgiven, and our hope reaches beyond death.

3. ✝️ 1 Corinthians 15:12-19

Paul argues that if there is no resurrection of the dead, then Christ has not been raised. If Christ has not been raised, preaching and faith are empty, believers remain in their sins, and those who died in Christ have perished. Therefore, if Christian hope is only for this life, believers are the most pitiable of all people.

Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? (v. 12)

5. 📝 Reflection

Everyone has a longing for eternal life. It is often said that this longing becomes even stronger in those who possess greater wealth, honor, and power than others. Throughout history, there have been people who dreamed of living forever and used the wealth and power of their nations not for their people, but for their own desires. One representative example is Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China.

Many wealthy and powerful people today are walking a similar path. They invest enormous amounts of money in anti-aging medicine, longevity programs, and life-extension technologies. Yet beneath all these desires lies a longing to preserve the wealth, honor, and power they currently possess. In the end, for them, eternal life is not truly about overcoming death itself. Rather, it is closer to a misguided desire to keep what they have even beyond death.

But today, Paul reminds us of a truly astonishing truth. Since the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, true eternal life has been promised to those who believe in his name and have received salvation. This eternal life includes the resurrection of the dead. Just as Jesus Christ died and rose again, we believe that those who trust in his name will also be raised after death.

This hope of resurrection has nothing to do with the wealth, honor, or power we possessed in this world. Before death, every person must let go of everything they once held onto. And those who are raised in Christ will enjoy eternal life in the kingdom of God, not according to the standards of this world, but according to the grace of God. No matter how I was evaluated in this world, in God’s kingdom we are simply God’s children.

Beloved brothers and sisters, hold on to the hope of resurrection. Hold on to the faith of resurrection. Nothing in this world can raise us back to life. And after the resurrection, nothing we once held onto in this world can become our boast. The fact that we are allowed to enter the kingdom of God is grace enough.

Therefore, the resurrection is a message of grace. May you give thanks for this grace today and enjoy true peace in the hope of resurrection.

6. 💬 What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I truly believe that the resurrection of Jesus changes how I face fear, loss, and death?
  • What earthly thing do I need to hold more loosely today because my hope is in Christ?
  • How can the hope of resurrection give me peace, courage, and faithfulness in my daily life?

7. 🙏 Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for raising Jesus Christ from the dead.

Help me not to place my ultimate hope in success, comfort, health, or anything in this world.

Teach me to hold earthly things with open hands and to trust Your promise of resurrection.

May the hope of eternal life in Christ give me peace, courage, and joy today.

12 Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say that there is no resurrection of the dead? 13 But if there is no resurrection of the dead, then not even Christ has been raised. 14 And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 15 We are even found to be misrepresenting God, because we testified about God that he raised Christ, whom he did not raise if it is true that the dead are not raised. 16 For if the dead are not raised, not even Christ has been raised. 17 And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile and you are still in your sins. 18 Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished. 19 If in Christ we have hope in this life only, we are of all people most to be pitied.
