π You Belong to Christ: Stop Proving Yourself | 1 Corinthians 3 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to remind you that your life belongs to Christ, and that His Spirit dwells in you.
2. π May 16, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
True freedom begins when we stop pretending to own what belongs to God.
3. ✝️ 1 Corinthians 3:16-23
Paul reminds the Corinthian believers that they are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in them. Therefore, they must not boast in human leaders or worldly wisdom, but seek true wisdom before God. All things belong to them, yet they belong to Christ, and Christ belongs to God.
4. π Key Verse
And you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s (v. 23).
5. π Reflection
I once saw a short video that many young people might come across online. A beautiful woman was sitting on the hood of a brightly colored luxury sports car, while a man was busily taking pictures of her. Then a young man with messy hair and shabby clothes approached her and greeted her. He began complimenting her, saying something along the lines that even the sunny weather and the flashy sports car could not outshine her beauty.
The woman glanced at him and responded coldly, as if disappointed by his appearance. She treated him as though he had no right to speak to her and basically told him to go away. The young man stepped back, looking somewhat embarrassed and unable to say anything. Meanwhile, the people gathered around to look at the woman and the sports car began whispering and laughing at him.
But then came the twist. The young man approached her again, this time carefully, and said just one sentence. The woman was startled, got down from the sports car, and stared at him. This is what he said:
“If you’re done taking pictures, could you please move? I have an appointment and need to leave now.”
Yes, the brightly colored luxury sports car on which the woman had been sitting so proudly actually belonged to that young man. The young man who appeared unimpressive was, in fact, the owner of the car. The beautiful woman had merely been acting as if she were the owner. As the people around them gasped in surprise, the young man got into the sports car and calmly drove away. And that is how the short video ended.
In today’s passage, Paul presents a very important biblical principle to the believers in the Corinthian church. He reminds them that they are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in them (cf. v. 16). We often think, “I belong to myself,” but Scripture tells us that we belong to God (cf. vv. 21-23).
Therefore, we have nothing to boast about. Pride is ultimately the heart that boasts in what it claims as its own. But if we understand that everything we have is not truly ours but God’s, how can we remain proud? Like the woman in the video, no matter how much someone acts as if the sports car belongs to them, when the true owner appears, they must step aside.
Dear beloved brothers and sisters, the truth that we belong to God is not a sad reality that takes away our identity. Rather, the fact that we belong to God—the Creator and Ruler of the entire universe—is a truth that truly sets us free.
This is because God is our Father who loves us, cares for us, and desires to give us what is best. Therefore, may we give thanks today to our loving Father and become humble believers who acknowledge that everything belongs to God.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where am I acting like the owner of my life instead of a steward?
- Am I trying to prove my worth through success, appearance, knowledge, ministry, or people’s approval?
- How does it change my daily life to remember that I am God’s temple and His Spirit dwells in me?
- What is one practical way I can live today as someone who belongs to Christ?
7. π Prayer
Father God, thank You for reminding me that I am not my own.
Thank You that I belong to Christ and that Your Spirit dwells in me.
Forgive me for living as if my life, gifts, success, and future belonged only to me.
Teach me to live with humility, gratitude, and trust.
Help me stop boasting in people or worldly wisdom.
May my life reflect that I belong to You.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (1 Corinthians 3:16-23, ESV).
16 Do you not know that you are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in you? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him. For God’s temple is holy, and you are that temple. 18 Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is folly with God. For it is written, “He catches the wise in their craftiness,” 20 and again, “The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile.” 21 So let no one boast in men. For all things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23 and you are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s.
