✨ Why True Joy Doesn’t Come from Success | Psalm 92 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. 🙏 Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to re-center your heart and teach you where true joy really comes from.

2. 📅 April 9, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

True joy comes not from circumstances, but from what God has done and who He is.

3. ✝️ Psalm 92:1–15

Psalm 92 is a song for the Sabbath that celebrates how good it is to give thanks to the LORD and praise His name. It calls God’s people to proclaim His steadfast love in the morning and His faithfulness at night, rejoicing in His great works and deep purposes. Though the wicked may seem to flourish for a moment, the LORD reigns forever, and the righteous—planted in God’s presence—will continue to grow and bear fruit even in old age, declaring that the LORD is upright.

4. 📖 Key Verse

For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy (v. 4).

5. 📝 Reflection

As we go through life, we meet many different people. Among them, there are those who bring us joy—people who respect us, love us, and speak with warmth. They comfort us in times of hardship and generously help us when we are in need. Even when we fail them, they reach out first to forgive. If asked who such a person is, many would likely answer, “my mother” or “my beloved.” That is how precious someone who brings us joy truly is.

Today’s psalm is titled “A Song for the Sabbath.” The psalmist sings that it is good to praise the name of the Lord with stringed instruments, proclaiming His love in the morning and His faithfulness at night. Yet the song begins with this confession: “For You, O Lord, have made me glad by Your work.” The psalmist declares that God’s deeds are the source of his joy. What a beautiful and astonishing confession this is, for the One who brings us joy is the One who is most precious to us.

Beloved believers, who is the most precious being in your life? Who brings the deepest joy to your heart? If we are seeking joy from something or someone other than God, we must reexamine the direction of our hearts. True joy comes from God alone. Therefore, may you become people who daily meditate on what God has done and respond with wonder and praise.

6. 💬 What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Where have I been seeking joy apart from God?
  • How can I practice remembering God’s love in the morning and His faithfulness at night?
  • What does it look like for me to stay “planted” in the presence of the LORD in this season of life?

7. 🙏 Prayer

Lord, redirect my heart to You as the true source of joy.

Teach me to remember Your love each morning and trust Your faithfulness each night.

Root my life in Your presence so that I may bear lasting fruit.

Amen.

Scriptures

📖 (Psalm 92:1-15, ESV).

1  It is good to give thanks to the LORD, to sing praises to your name, O Most High; 2  to declare your steadfast love in the morning, and your faithfulness by night, 3  to the music of the lute and the harp, to the melody of the lyre. 4  For you, O LORD, have made me glad by your work; at the works of your hands I sing for joy.

5  How great are your works, O LORD! Your thoughts are very deep! 6  The stupid man cannot know; the fool cannot understand this: 7  that though the wicked sprout like grass and all evildoers flourish, they are doomed to destruction forever; 8  but you, O LORD, are on high forever. 9  For behold, your enemies, O LORD, for behold, your enemies shall perish; all evildoers shall be scattered.

10  But you have exalted my horn like that of the wild ox; you have poured over me fresh oil. 11  My eyes have seen the downfall of my enemies; my ears have heard the doom of my evil assailants.

12  The righteous flourish like the palm tree and grow like a cedar in Lebanon. 13  They are planted in the house of the LORD; they flourish in the courts of our God. 14  They still bear fruit in old age; they are ever full of sap and green, 15  to declare that the LORD is upright; he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.
