Today’s passage reminds us:

The holy God deserves our worship, and His holiness should shape the way we live.

3. ✝️ Psalm 99:1–9

The LORD is the holy King who reigns over all the earth, and all peoples are called to praise His great and awesome name and worship Him. He loves justice and righteousness, establishes equity, and answered Moses, Aaron, and Samuel as He led His people by His word. Because the LORD both judges sin and forgives His people, we are to exalt Him and worship Him as the holy God.

For the LORD our God is holy! (v. 9b)

5. 📝 Reflection

In our daily lives, the word holiness is not commonly used. Even when we look around, it is difficult to find objects, places, or people that are truly holy. Perhaps we are gradually forgetting the very idea of holiness. That is why some people intentionally go out in search of it. They visit monasteries deep in the mountains, quiet temples, or shrines, and some devote themselves to meditation in hopes of discovering holiness within. Sadly, however, there is no perfect holiness in this world. Perfect holiness belongs to God alone.

Today’s Psalm proclaims that the LORD is holy. God’s kingship reveals His holiness upon the earth and displays His justice and love to the world. Therefore, all creation must worship the LORD. We must praise His great and awesome name and keep His statutes, for the LORD is holy.

Then what is holiness? Scripture testifies that God is spotlessly pure, righteous, and exalted above all creation, set apart from it. This is what it means for God to be holy. Scripture also declares that God is morally perfect and completely separated from evil. This too explains His holiness.

Beloved saints, this holy God invites us today into a life of holiness. Through Scripture, He shows us what holiness is and tells us that His children are also to be holy. Therefore, if you are God’s child and one of His saints, do not forget that you are called to live a holy life today. Just as the whole universe praises and worships God’s holiness, we too ought to praise and worship our holy God.

6. 💬 What does this passage speak to you today?

  • In what area of my life have I become too comfortable with compromise?
  • Do I truly honor God as holy in the way I worship and live?
  • What would it look like for me to live more set apart for God today?
  • Is there any sin I need to confess before the holy and forgiving God?

7. 🙏 Prayer

Lord, You are holy and worthy of all worship.

Teach me to honor You with reverence, obedience, and love.

Help me turn away from compromise and live a life set apart for You.

Thank You for being both just and forgiving.

Shape my heart to reflect Your holiness today.

Amen.

1 The LORD reigns; let the peoples tremble! He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake! 2 The LORD is great in Zion; he is exalted over all the peoples. 3 Let them praise your great and awesome name! Holy is he! 4 The King in his might loves justice. You have established equity; you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob. 5 Exalt the LORD our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests, Samuel also was among those who called upon his name. They called to the LORD, and he answered them. 7 In the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them; they kept his testimonies and the statute that he gave them.

8 O LORD our God, you answered them; you were a forgiving God to them, but an avenger of their wrongdoings. 9 Exalt the LORD our God, and worship at his holy mountain; for the LORD our God is holy!
