How to Overcome Fear as a Christian π₯ | Matthew 10 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause. Take a deep breath. Ask God to speak courage into your heart as you follow Jesus in a challenging world.
2. π February 5, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Courage comes not from ourselves, but from God’s Spirit who is always with us.
3. ✝️ Matthew 10:16-33
Jesus teaches that His disciples will face persecution for His name, yet the Holy Spirit will speak through them, and those who endure to the end will be saved. God, who cares even for sparrows, attentively watches over His people and commands them not to fear. Whoever acknowledges Jesus before others will be acknowledged before the Father, while those who deny Him will be denied.
4. π Key Verse
For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you (v. 20).
5. π Reflection
There are many reasons we feel fear, but one of the greatest is the fear of failure. No matter how hard we try, we might still fail an entrance exam, struggle to find a job, or face difficulties in marriage. When we hit these limits, we often fear that we cannot overcome them.
But what if we were certain that someone would stand with us and help us at that very moment? Would we still be afraid? Probably not. Instead, we would boldly prepare for the exam, submit our rΓ©sumΓ© to the company we hope to join, and work to reconcile and love our spouse even after moments of conflict.
Today, Jesus tells His disciples to be courageous when they face suffering. He promises that the Holy Spirit will surely be with them and help them. He also teaches them that fleeing from persecution and being hated for His name should not surprise them. Just as Jesus suffered, His disciples will also suffer. Yet He comforts them: just as not even a sparrow falls to the ground apart from the Father’s will, so also God dearly watches over every disciple who suffers for Him.
Dear friends, what fills your heart with fear? Are you afraid to share the gospel with someone you meet today? Are you hesitant for your faith to be known at work? Are you scared of being disliked or persecuted because of the gospel? Remember, we are worth far more than many sparrows. So do not be afraid. The Spirit of God is with us today.

7. π Prayer
Lord, calm my fears and help me trust that Your Spirit is with me every moment. Give me courage to live faithfully and speak boldly when You lead me. Remind me that I am deeply valued by You, and may my life honor Jesus today. Amen.
Scriptures
π 16 “Behold, I am sending you out as sheep in the midst of wolves, so be wise as serpents and innocent as doves. 17 Beware of men, for they will deliver you over to courts and flog you in their synagogues, 18 and you will be dragged before governors and kings for my sake, to bear witness before them and the Gentiles. 19 When they deliver you over, do not be anxious how you are to speak or what you are to say, for what you are to say will be given to you in that hour. 20 For it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father speaking through you. 21 Brother will deliver brother over to death, and the father his child, and children will rise against parents and have them put to death, 22 and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 23 When they persecute you in one town, flee to the next, for truly, I say to you, you will not have gone through all the towns of Israel before the Son of Man comes. 24 “A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. 25 It is enough for the disciple to be like his teacher, and the servant like his master. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebul, how much more will they malign those of his household.
26 “So have no fear of them, for nothing is covered that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known. 27 What I tell you in the dark, say in the light, and what you hear whispered, proclaim on the housetops. 28 And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. 29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. 30 But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. 32 So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, 33 but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father who is in heaven (Matthew 10:16-33, ESV).
