From Death to Life π | Matthew 9 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask Jesus to show you where He wants to bring new life into your heart today.
2. π February 2, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Jesus meets us in our deepest struggles and brings us from death to life.
3. ✝️ Matthew 9:14–26
Jesus explains that His disciples do not fast because the bridegroom is with them and teaches that new wine requires fresh wineskins. On His way to help a ruler whose daughter had died, Jesus heals a woman suffering from a twelve‑year discharge of blood because of her faith. He then arrives at the ruler's house and raises the dead girl to life.
4. π Key Verse
Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. (v. 22)
5. π Reflection
In today’s passage, Jesus meets a young girl and a woman. The girl had already died, yet Jesus set out to bring her back to life. On His way, He encountered a woman who had been suffering for many years and was near death. According to her faith, Jesus healed her. Then, after the brief delay, He continued His journey, reached the dead girl, and—according to her father’s faith—brought her back to life. In this way, Jesus moved both the dying woman and the dead girl from death to life.
Later, Jesus Himself would die on the cross. It was an unjust and painful death, and no one on earth could rescue Him from it. Yet just as Jesus restored life to the girl and the woman, God the Father raised Jesus from the dead. God brought Him from death to life.
And this became the great promise that anyone who believes in the name of Jesus will also be transferred from death to life.
Dear brothers and sisters, do you believe that just as Jesus led the girl and the woman into life, and just as God led Jesus into life, God will do the same for you? Today, believe that those who trust in the name of Jesus already possess the life of resurrection. This faith is our trust in the great promise of God’s salvation.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where do you feel like the woman—tired, worn down, or stuck in a long struggle?
- Is there an area of your life that feels “dead” and needs Jesus’ touch?
- What would it look like to reach out to Jesus in faith this week?
7. π Prayer
Jesus, thank You for meeting people in their deepest pain and bringing life where hope seemed gone.
Give me the courage to reach out to You with honest faith.
Heal the places in me that feel worn out or lifeless, and lead me into Your resurrection life today.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 14 Then the disciples of John came to him, saying, “Why do we and the Pharisees fast, but your disciples do not fast?” 15 And Jesus said to them, “Can the wedding guests mourn as long as the bridegroom is with them? The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them, and then they will fast. 16 No one puts a piece of unshrunk cloth on an old garment, for the patch tears away from the garment, and a worse tear is made. 17 Neither is new wine put into old wineskins. If it is, the skins burst and the wine is spilled and the skins are destroyed. But new wine is put into fresh wineskins, and so both are preserved.”
18 While he was saying these things to them, behold, a ruler came in and knelt before him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay your hand on her, and she will live.” 19 And Jesus rose and followed him, with his disciples. 20 And behold, a woman who had suffered from a discharge of blood for twelve years came up behind him and touched the fringe of his garment, 21 for she said to herself, “If I only touch his garment, I will be made well.” 22 Jesus turned, and seeing her he said, “Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” And instantly the woman was made well. 23 And when Jesus came to the ruler’s house and saw the flute players and the crowd making a commotion, 24 he said, “Go away, for the girl is not dead but sleeping.” And they laughed at him. 25 But when the crowd had been put outside, he went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. 26 And the report of this went through all that district (Matthew 9:14-26, ESV).
