2. π January 5, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Love isn’t just words—it’s action.
3. ✝️ 1 John 3:13–24
John tells us not to be surprised when the world hates us. Loving others proves we’ve passed from death to life; hatred equals murder and excludes eternal life. Real love is shown by action, not talk—just as Jesus laid down His life for us. We’re called to help those in need and obey God’s command: believe in Jesus and love one another. When we keep His commands, we abide in Him, and He in us—confirmed by the Spirit He gave us.
4. π Key Verse
And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us (v. 23).
5. π Reflection
The world offers countless definitions of love—philosophical, sociological, psychological, even medical. As civilization advances, efforts to define love have multiplied. Recently, neuroscience has even attempted to capture brain activity during different stages of love.
Why does the world strive so hard to define love? The simplest answer is that love is difficult to define clearly. That’s why both metaphysical and scientific approaches abound.
But today’s Scripture gives us the clearest definition: love is God’s command. He calls us to love Him and love our neighbor (cf. Mark 12:28–34). As God’s children, we don’t need to reinvent the definition of love. We simply obey His command to love.
Dear friends, love today—whoever you meet, whatever the situation. Believing in Jesus and loving according to God’s command is obedience and brings glory to Him.

Scriptures
π 13 Do not be surprised, brothers, that the world hates you. 14 We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15 Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
16 By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17 But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? 18 Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.
19 By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and he knows everything. 21 Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 24 Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God, and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit whom he has given us (1 John 3:13-24, ESV).
