God is Love: Source and Mandate ❤️ | 1 John 4 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to teach you what real love looks like and how to live it out today.

2. πŸ“… January 6, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

True love starts with God and flows through us to others.

3. ✝️ 1 John 4:1-12

John warns believers to test every spirit because false prophets exist. The Spirit of God is recognized when someone confesses Jesus came in the flesh; those who deny Him belong to the spirit of the antichrist. But God in us is greater than the world! Love comes from God, and anyone who loves is born of God and knows Him—because God is love. He proved His love by sending His Son as the sacrifice for our sins. So, let’s love one another. When we do, His love is complete in us.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love (v. 8).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

We love leaders who lead by example. We respect those who do not merely give orders but demonstrate through action. Such leaders inspire us to follow willingly and without fear because they are trustworthy and keep their promises.

Yesterday, we confirmed that God’s command is to love. He gave us the command to love Him and to love our neighbors. Yet God did not stop at giving instructions. About 1,500 years later, He sent His beloved Son into the world to die on the cross, proving His love for us (1 John 4:9-10; Romans 5:8). This is why God is love.

Dear friends, remember that God loved us first. Today, let us give thanks for His love and decide to love one another. When we love each other, God dwells in us, and His love is made complete in us. So today, choose to love someone you meet and live as a child of God who truly knows Him.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Who is God calling me to love today?
  • How can I show love in practical ways—even to difficult people?
  • How does God’s love for me change the way I treat others?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me first.

Help me love others the way You love me.

May Your love be seen in my words and actions today.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world. 2 By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, 3 and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you heard was coming and now is in the world already. 4 Little children, you are from God and have overcome them, for he who is in you is greater than he who is in the world. 5 They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and the world listens to them. 6 We are from God. Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know the Spirit of truth and the spirit of error.

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. 12 No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us (1 John 4:1-12, ESV).
