Why God’s Grace Is Greater Than Fairness ✨ | Joshua 16 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you see His grace beyond human standards of fairness.

2. πŸ“… December 10, 2025

Today’s passage reminds us:

God’s blessings flow from His will, not human fairness.

3. ✝️ Joshua 16:1-10

This passage describes the inheritance given to Joseph’s descendants of Joseph—Manasseh and Ephraim. Their territory stretched from the Jordan near Jericho through the hill country to Bethel and extended westward to the sea. Ephraim’s boundaries are detailed, including towns within Manasseh’s inheritance. However, the Canaanites in Gezer were not driven out and remained, serving as forced labor.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

The people of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance (v. 4).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Our culture values fairness—equal rights, equal opportunities. But God’s ways often look different. When the land was divided, Joseph’s two sons each received an inheritance. To human eyes, that seems unfair. But Scripture shows us this was God’s will, not favoritism.

God’s blessings are not earned; they are gifts of grace. Salvation is not about merit—it’s about His purpose and love. What feels “unequal” in human terms is often God’s way of showing abundant grace.

So instead of measuring life by fairness, measure it by grace. Today, thank God that you are His child—not because you deserve it, but because He chose you. Live with gratitude and confidence in His plan.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I struggle when God’s ways don’t seem “fair”?
  • How can I trust His purpose over my sense of fairness?
  • Am I living with gratitude for His grace today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your grace that goes beyond fairness.

Help me trust Your will and rejoice in being Your child.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 1 The allotment of the people of Joseph went from the Jordan by Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, into the wilderness, going up from Jericho into the hill country to Bethel. 2 Then going from Bethel to Luz, it passes along to Ataroth, the territory of the Archites. 3 Then it goes down westward to the territory of the Japhletites, as far as the territory of Lower Beth-horon, then to Gezer, and it ends at the sea.

4 The people of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, received their inheritance.

5 The territory of the people of Ephraim by their clans was as follows: the boundary of their inheritance on the east was Ataroth-addar as far as Upper Beth-horon, 6 and the boundary goes from there to the sea. On the north is Michmethath. Then on the east the boundary turns around toward Taanath-shiloh and passes along beyond it on the east to Janoah, 7 then it goes down from Janoah to Ataroth and to Naarah, and touches Jericho, ending at the Jordan. 8 From Tappuah the boundary goes westward to the brook Kanah and ends at the sea. Such is the inheritance of the tribe of the people of Ephraim by their clans, 9 together with the towns that were set apart for the people of Ephraim within the inheritance of the Manassites, all those towns with their villages. 10 However, they did not drive out the Canaanites who lived in Gezer, so the Canaanites have lived in the midst of Ephraim to this day but have been made to do forced labor (Joshua 16:1-10, ESV).
