Why God Is Your True Blessing π | Joshua 21 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to teach you what true blessing looks like in His kingdom.
2. π December 18, 2025
Today’s passage reminds us:
True inheritance is God Himself, not worldly gain.
3. ✝️ Joshua 21:1–7
The leaders of the Levites approached Eleazar the priest, Joshua, and Israel’s tribal heads at Shiloh, asking for cities and pasturelands as the LORD commanded through Moses. Israel obeyed and allotted cities from their inheritance:
- Kohathites (descendants of Aaron): 13 cities from Judah, Simeon, Benjamin.
- Other Kohathites: 10 cities from Ephraim, Dan, half-Manasseh.
- Gershonites: 13 cities from Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, half-Manasseh in Bashan.
- Merarites: 12 cities from Reuben, Gad, Zebulun.
The Levites’ true portion was God Himself.
4. π Key Verse
“The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” (v. 2b)
5. π Reflection
What do we usually call “honor” today? Being first, getting ahead, having more. Recently, I saw a story about someone camping out for days just to buy a new product first. People celebrated him like a hero. That’s what culture calls success.
But God’s kingdom works differently. The Levites—those closest to God—didn’t get land first or the biggest share. Their inheritance was God Himself. That’s real blessing. It means our worth isn’t tied to status, success, or stuff. It’s found in Him.
Dear friends, if you belong to Jesus, you already have the greatest treasure—God Himself. So today, lay down the pressure to be first. Choose humility over hustle. Let your joy come from being His.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where do I feel pressure to “be first” in life—career, relationships, social media?
- How does knowing God is my inheritance change my priorities?
- What step can I take today to choose humility over ambition?
7. π Prayer
Lord, remind me that You are my true inheritance.
Help me let go of worldly ambition and choose humility.
May my life reflect Your kingdom values today.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 1 Then the heads of the fathers’ houses of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and to Joshua the son of Nun and to the heads of the fathers’ houses of the tribes of the people of Israel. 2 And they said to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, “The LORD commanded through Moses that we be given cities to dwell in, along with their pasturelands for our livestock.” 3 So by command of the LORD the people of Israel gave to the Levites the following cities and pasturelands out of their inheritance. 4 The lot came out for the clans of the Kohathites. So those Levites who were descendants of Aaron the priest received by lot from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin, thirteen cities. 5 And the rest of the Kohathites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Ephraim, from the tribe of Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh, ten cities. 6 The Gershonites received by lot from the clans of the tribe of Issachar, from the tribe of Asher, from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the half-tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities. 7 The Merarites according to their clans received from the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad, and the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities (Joshua 21:1-7, ESV).
