The Heart of Christmas: God’s Zeal π₯ and Love ❤️ | Isaiah 9 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you see His passion and love behind the gift of Jesus.
2. π December 23, 2025
Today’s passage reminds us:
Christmas is about God’s zeal and love, not just a holiday tradition.
3. ✝️ Isaiah 9:1–7
Isaiah prophesies hope for a land once in darkness. Those who walked in gloom will see a great light, and joy will increase like harvest celebrations. God will break the yoke of oppression and end war. This promise centers on a child given to us—called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. His reign will be eternal, marked by justice and righteousness, and the zeal of the LORD will accomplish this.
4. π Key Verse
The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this (v. 7b).
5. π Reflection
I once received a traditional Korean tea set crafted by an artisan who revived a forgotten technique. Inside the box was a letter explaining the effort and passion behind the gift. That letter made the gift priceless. Every time I used the tea set, I remembered the artisan’s dedication.
Christmas is similar. We celebrate the birth of Jesus, but do we remember the passion behind the gift? Isaiah reminds us that God’s zeal—His unstoppable love—sent Jesus to bring light, joy, and peace to a broken world. This isn’t just a cute baby in a manger; it’s God’s rescue plan for humanity.
Friends, as Christmas approaches, don’t miss the heart behind the holiday. God so loved the world that He gave His Son. That same love is for you—right now. Let’s thank Him for His relentless love and live in that joy today.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- How can I celebrate God’s love, not just the season?
- What does it mean for me that Jesus is my Wonderful Counselor and Prince of Peace?
- How can I share this hope with someone this week?
7. π Prayer
Lord, thank You for sending Jesus out of Your great love and zeal.
Help me remember the passion behind the gift this Christmas.
Let my life reflect Your joy and peace to others.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 1 But there will be no gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the latter time he has made glorious the way of the sea, the land beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2 The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone. 3 You have multiplied the nation; you have increased its joy; they rejoice before you as with joy at the harvest, as they are glad when they divide the spoil. 4 For the yoke of his burden, and the staff for his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as on the day of Midian. 5 For every boot of the tramping warrior in battle tumult and every garment rolled in blood will be burned as fuel for the fire. 6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. 7 Of the increase of his government and of peace there will be no end, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from this time forth and forevermore. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will do this (Isaiah 9:1-7, ESV).
