How to Walk in God’s Light 🌟 | 1 John 1 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you start this new year walking in His light.

2. πŸ“… January 1, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

God’s forgiveness is real—and it’s for you.

3. ✝️ 1 John 1:1-10

John proclaims the message of life revealed in Jesus Christ—the eternal life that was with the Father and manifested to us. He writes so believers may share fellowship with God and one another, and experience complete joy. The message is this: God is light; in Him there is no darkness. Those who claim fellowship with God but walk in darkness lie. Walking in the light brings true fellowship and cleansing through Jesus’ blood. Denying sin is self-deception, but confessing sin leads to forgiveness and cleansing because God is faithful and just.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (v. 9).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Picture a courtroom. A repeat offender stands trial. The prosecutor demands a harsher sentence because the crime keeps happening. The defense pleads for mercy. What would an earthly judge do?

Now think about your life. You’ve confessed your sins before God, yet here you are—falling into the same patterns again. It’s embarrassing. Shame whispers, “Don’t go back to God.” But today’s verse says the opposite: If we confess, He forgives and cleanses. Every time.

Friends, what sin keeps tripping you up? What guilt makes you hesitate to pray? Don’t let shame win. Forgiveness and strength to overcome come only from God. Start this year by confessing honestly and trusting His promise: He will make you clean.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • What sin do I need to bring to God today?
  • How can I remind myself that His grace is greater than my failure?
  • What step will I take to walk in the light this year?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness and grace.

Help me confess honestly and trust Your forgiveness.

Cleanse me and teach me to walk in Your light every day.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 1 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we looked upon and have touched with our hands, concerning the word of life— 2 the life was made manifest, and we have seen it, and testify to it and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was made manifest to us— 3 that which we have seen and heard we proclaim also to you, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son Jesus Christ. 4 And we are writing these things so that our joy may be complete.

5 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. 6 If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us (1 John 1:1-10, ESV).
