Today’s passage reminds us: You’re not a slave to fear—you’re a child of God.

3. ✝️ Romans 8:12–17

Paul says we’re no longer debtors to the flesh. We don’t owe our old sinful nature anything. Instead, we’ve received the Spirit of adoption. That means we can call God “Abba, Father”—a term of intimacy like “Dad.” And as His children, we’re also heirs with Christ.

4. 📖 Key Verse

“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’” (v. 15)

5. 📝 Reflection

Think about the most exclusive membership or achievement—getting into an Ivy League school, landing a dream job, or joining a top company. You’d feel proud, right?

Now imagine something infinitely greater: being adopted by the Creator of the universe. That’s your reality in Christ. You’re not a slave to fear or performance anymore. You’re family. So live boldly, not timidly. Celebrate this privilege and share it with joy.

  • Do I live like a child of God or like a fearful slave?
  • Where do I need to replace fear with confidence in God’s love?
  • How can I remind myself daily that I belong to Him?

7. 🙏 Prayer

Abba Father, thank You for adopting me as Your child. Help me live in freedom, not fear, and trust Your love every day. Teach me to walk boldly as Your son/daughter and share this joy with others. Amen.

📖 12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” 16 The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him (Rom 8:12-17, ESV).
