Romans 6:1–7 Explained | Living Free from Sin | Quiet Time Devotional

Why Go Back to Sin When You’re Free? ⛓️

  3. ✝️ Romans 6:1-7

  4. πŸ“– For one who has died has been set free from sin (v. 7)

  5. πŸ“ Like a rescued soldier returning to captivity, choosing sin after Christ set us free makes no sense. Jesus’ death and resurrection broke sin’s chains. Freedom is ours—so why live like prisoners? Embrace your new life in Christ and walk in the liberty His grace provides every day.

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause. Take a deep breath. Ask God to remind you of the freedom you have in Christ—and the strength to live in it.

2. πŸ“… September 14, 2025

Today’s passage reminds us: We’ve died to sin—so why live like we’re still its prisoners?

3. ✝️ Romans 6:1–7

Paul asks a bold question: If grace covers sin, should we keep sinning? Absolutely not! When we were baptized into Christ, we were united with Him in His death and resurrection. That means our old self was crucified, and we are no longer slaves to sin. If you’ve died with Christ, you’ve been set free.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

“For one who has died has been set free from sin.” (v. 7)

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Imagine a soldier rescued from enemy captivity after a daring mission. Would it make sense for that soldier to run back to the prison camp? That’s what it’s like when we return to sin after Christ has set us free.

Sin promises pleasure but delivers chains. Grace doesn’t just forgive—it liberates. You’re not who you used to be. So why live like a prisoner when you’re free?

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do I treat sin lightly because I know grace will cover it?
  • What habits or attitudes still make me live like a prisoner?
  • How can I walk in the freedom Christ has already given me this week?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

God, thank You for setting me free from sin through Jesus. Help me live like someone who’s truly free—not going back to old chains. Fill me with Your Spirit so I can walk in newness of life and reflect Your grace. Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 1 What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? 2 By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? 3 Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. 5 For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin (Rom 6:1-7, ESV).
