❤️ Without Love, It Means Nothing | 1 Corinthians 13 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you see that even the greatest gifts, sacrifices, and good works are meaningless without love.
2. π June 7, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Without love, even the most impressive words, gifts, faith, generosity, and sacrifices become empty before God.
3. ✝️ 1 Corinthians 13:1-7
Paul teaches that even eloquent speech, prophecy, knowledge, great faith, generosity, and sacrifice are meaningless without love. True love is patient and kind. It does not envy, boast, act arrogantly, or seek its own way. Love does not rejoice in wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears, believes, hopes, and endures all things.
4. π Key Verse
If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing (v. 3).
5. π Reflection
Many years ago, a major scandal involving an international nonprofit organization became widely known. The organization had been running a program to help children in Africa through people’s donations. However, much of the money did not fully reach the children, and embezzlement took place along the way. When the corruption was eventually exposed by a whistleblower from within the organization, many long-time donors felt deeply betrayed. As a result, many of them quickly stopped giving. The organization had certainly begun with a good purpose and was doing some good work, but its love for money had become greater than its love for the children in Africa.
Paul uses the phrase, “if I have not love,” to make it unmistakably clear that even the things that appear good in the church are nothing without love. He then explains what love is through fifteen descriptions. Of these, seven are about doing what is good, and eight are about not doing what is wrong. According to this standard, the organization whose corruption was exposed sought its own advantage and rejoiced in wrongdoing. Therefore, it seems clear that it had lost true love.
Beloved brothers and sisters, no matter how many good things we may possess, they are of no value if we do not have love. And no matter how many good things we may do, they are also meaningless without love. Therefore, knowing what love is and practicing that love in real life is a very important virtue for the children of God. May you learn love today and live it out in your daily life.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where in my life am I doing the “right thing” without genuine love?
- Do I seek my own benefit more than the good of others?
- How can I practice patience, kindness, and truth-filled love today?
- In my church community, friendships, or family, who needs to experience Christlike love through me?
7. π Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for showing me that love is at the heart of the Christian life.
Help me not to be satisfied with looking spiritual, generous, or faithful on the outside.
Search my heart and reveal where my actions are not rooted in love.
Teach me to love with patience, kindness, humility, and truth.
May my words, gifts, service, and sacrifices reflect the love of Christ.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (1 Corinthians 13:1-7, ESV).
1 If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant 5 or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; 6 it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. 7 Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
