❤️ Why Love Is Greater Than Everything | 1 Corinthians 1 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you see that His love never ends, and that the love revealed through Christ is the only way to heal division, pride, and conflict in His church.

2. πŸ“… June 8, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

Many things in this life are temporary and partial, but love never ends. Faith, hope, and love remain—and the greatest of these is love.

3. ✝️ 1 Corinthians 13:8-13

Love never ends, while prophecies, tongues, and knowledge will pass away because they are only partial. When the perfect comes, the partial will disappear. Now we know dimly and in part, but then we will know fully. Faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love (v. 13).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

When I was a student, there was one activity I almost always had to take part in whenever I went to a church retreat. On the first evening, we would introduce ourselves by answering the question, “Who am I?” Since it was a retreat for people from the same local church, it was probably not because we truly did not know one another. Rather, I think the retreat leaders wanted to help us move beyond formal relationships and enter into deeper spiritual fellowship.

But whenever I received the self-introduction questionnaire, there was one question that always made me uncomfortable: “What is your favorite Bible verse?” At that time, I did not know many Bible verses. I did not even really understand what it meant to have a “favorite Bible verse.” Still, I felt embarrassed to say that I did not have one. So the answer I often gave was 1 Corinthians 13:13. In truth, I did not understand the real meaning of that verse. I simply used it as an answer to get through the situation.

But as time passed, and as I came to truly believe the Bible as the Word of God, 1 Corinthians 13:13 was no longer just a formal answer to the question, “What is your favorite Bible verse?” It became a verse that changed my life. When I came to understand the love of God, who sent Jesus into the world because He loved the whole world, and when I came to know the love of Christ, who gave His body and blood without holding anything back to save us, this verse finally became a lamp in my heart. Then I began to understand why Paul said that love never fails and that love is the greatest of all. I also became convinced that this love is truly the most excellent way (1 Cor. 12:31).

Beloved brothers and sisters, do you believe that you have been saved by the love of God? Do you believe that you have been saved by the love of Jesus Christ shown on the cross? Do you believe that even now the Holy Spirit dwells in us and cares for us in love? If so, then may you also believe that the only way to heal every division and conflict within the church is this very love.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Is there something temporary that I have been treating as more important than love?
  • Do I use my gifts, knowledge, or position to serve others, or to prove myself?
  • Is there someone I need to forgive, encourage, or love more intentionally this week?
  • How can I practice Christlike love in my church, family, school, or workplace today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Our heavenly Father, thank You for loving me with a love that never ends.

Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to save me through His sacrifice on the cross.

Help me not to chase temporary things as if they were ultimate.

Teach me to use my gifts, knowledge, and position to serve others in love.

Heal division, pride, and conflict in my heart and in Your church.

May my life show the love of Christ clearly to the people around me.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– (1 Corinthians 13:8-13, ESV).

8 Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will pass away. 11 When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I gave up childish ways. 12 For now we see in a mirror dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I have been fully known. 13 So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
