πͺ When Temptation Comes: Trust God’s Way of Escape | 1 Corinthians 10 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask Him to help you learn from the past, recognize temptation, and trust His faithfulness today.
2. π May 29, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
God’s warnings are not against us—they are for us, because He is faithful and loving.
3. ✝️ 1 Corinthians 10:1-13
Paul warns the Corinthians through Israel’s wilderness failures. Though Israel experienced God’s salvation and provision, many fell through idolatry, immorality, testing Christ, and grumbling. These events were written for our instruction. Therefore, believers must stay humble and watchful, trusting God’s faithfulness to provide a way of escape in every temptation.
4. π Key Verse
Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come (v. 11).
5. π Reflection
Many years ago, when I was a student, my world history teacher once said, “The main reason we study history is so that we will not repeat the same failures.” Until then, I had been focused only on memorizing world history for college entrance exams. But that simple remark, spoken almost in passing, deeply impacted my heart. From that point on, world history became one of the most fascinating and enjoyable subjects for me.
According to the Westminster Confession of Faith, Scripture was written because if God’s truth depended only on human memory or tradition, it could be distorted or lost. God caused His revelation to be written in Scripture so that the church in every generation might hold firmly to an unchanging standard of truth. Therefore, Scripture was given to make God and the way of salvation known, to teach God’s people what to believe and how to live, and to preserve and comfort the church in the truth.
Paul conveys this wonderful truth to the Corinthian church in one sentence: “They were written down as warnings for us” (v. 11b). What we must pay attention to here is the phrase “for us.” Even the warnings of Scripture reveal the great goodness and lovingkindness of God toward His people.
Beloved brothers and sisters, are you going through a trial that God has allowed? Then let us look to the love of God contained within that trial. Let us also look ahead to the glory of God that we will experience after passing through it. Even if that trial feels like a temptation, it cannot overtake God’s love for us. For the God who gave us Scripture not to boast about Himself, but “for us,” will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear (cf. v. 13). Therefore, through QT today, may we not repeat the failure of Israel in testing God as they did in the past (cf. v. 9). May we hear God’s warnings as expressions of His love, and may we live by faith within that love.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where have I become spiritually careless because I assumed, “I’m strong enough”?
- What temptation, complaint, or hidden desire do I need to bring honestly before God today?
- How can I receive God’s warning not as condemnation, but as His love for me?
7. π Prayer
Our heavenly Father, thank You for giving Your Word for us.
Help me not to ignore Your warnings, but to receive them as expressions of Your love.
Keep me from pride, carelessness, and repeated sin.
When I face temptation, remind me that You are faithful.
Open my eyes to the way of escape You provide, and help me walk in obedience today.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (1 Corinthians 10:1-13, ESV).
1 For I do not want you to be unaware, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, 2 and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, 3 and all ate the same spiritual food, 4 and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them, and the Rock was Christ. 5 Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. 6 Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did. 7 Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, “The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” 8 We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day. 9 We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents, 10 nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. 11 Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come. 12 Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. 13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.
