7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to show you how His grace has been flowing through your story, your family, and your daily obedience.
2. π May 9, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
God’s grace turns broken stories into a legacy of faith.
3. ✝️ Ruth 4:13-22
Boaz took Ruth as his wife, and the LORD gave her conception so that she bore a son. The women blessed the LORD for giving Naomi a redeemer, declaring that the child would restore her life and nourish her in old age. The child was named Obed, who became the father of Jesse and the grandfather of David, and the book closes with the genealogy from Perez to David.
4. π Key Verse
Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed (v. 21)
5. π Reflection
If the saying, “History is written by the winners,” were entirely true, Ruth 4:21 might have disappeared from Scripture. If the book of Ruth were merely human propaganda written to defend King David’s legitimacy, there would have been no reason to preserve the names of two foreign women in the genealogy of Judah and David. Yet Scripture does not hide this detail. Instead, it reveals it. Why does Ruth end with this genealogy?
To answer that question, we need to look at Matthew 1:5: “Salmon was the father of Boaz by Rahab, and Boaz the father of Obed by Ruth.” This verse tells us that Salmon married Rahab and became the father of Boaz. Ruth was a Moabite woman and a widow. Yet Boaz obeyed God’s law by redeeming Naomi’s land and taking Ruth as his wife, fulfilling the responsibility of a kinsman-redeemer. What is remarkable is that Boaz’s mother, Rahab, was also a foreign woman.
Rahab was a Canaanite woman who chose to stand with the God of Israel when Jericho fell. Though she could have been judged by her past, she entered the people of God by faith. Therefore, it may not have been accidental that Boaz received Ruth, a foreign woman, without prejudice. In his own family history, there was already a testimony of a foreign woman being welcomed by God’s grace.
Scripture does not explain this connection directly, but Boaz’s obedience shows how God’s grace flows from one generation to the next. Through his obedience, the line of David continued, and ultimately, the genealogy of faith was established through which Jesus Christ came into the world.
Dear brothers and sisters, the Bible is not an ordinary document written by chance. It is the Word of God, filled with the αΈ₯esed and emet of the living God. Through Ruth, God shows us that even outsiders are received by grace when they seek Him, and that He continues His work of salvation through families who embrace His grace and obey Him. Therefore, may we also make Quiet Time a legacy of faith. When we pass on to the next generation a life that knows God, trusts Him, and obeys His Word, our families will receive the grace of being called families of faith.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where do I need to believe that God can redeem my story?
- What kind of legacy am I building through my daily choices?
- Is there any prejudice, fear, or past wound that keeps me from extending grace to others?
- How can I make Quiet Time a foundation for my life and future family?
7. π Prayer
Lord, thank You for showing me that Your grace is greater than my past.
Thank You for welcoming outsiders, healing broken stories, and continuing Your work through ordinary people who trust and obey You.
Teach me to see my life through Your grace.
Like Boaz, help me to obey You faithfully, even in ordinary decisions.
May my Quiet Time with You become more than a daily habit.
Let it become a foundation for knowing You, trusting You, and passing faith to the next generation.
Amen.
Scriptures
π (Ruth 4:13-22, ESV).
13 So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife. And he went in to her, and the LORD gave her conception, and she bore a son. 14 Then the women said to Naomi, “Blessed be the LORD, who has not left you this day without a redeemer, and may his name be renowned in Israel! 15 He shall be to you a restorer of life and a nourisher of your old age, for your daughter-in-law who loves you, who is more to you than seven sons, has given birth to him.” 16 Then Naomi took the child and laid him on her lap and became his nurse. 17 And the women of the neighborhood gave him a name, saying, “A son has been born to Naomi.” They named him Obed. He was the father of Jesse, the father of David.
18 Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez fathered Hezron, 19 Hezron fathered Ram, Ram fathered Amminadab, 20 Amminadab fathered Nahshon, Nahshon fathered Salmon, 21 Salmon fathered Boaz, Boaz fathered Obed, 22 Obed fathered Jesse, and Jesse fathered David.
