7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to teach you how to live wisely in light of eternity.

2. πŸ“… April 7, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

Life is short, but a life rooted in God is never wasted.

3. ✝️ Psalm 90:1-17

The eternal God has been the dwelling place of His people throughout all generations, while human life is brief, fragile, and fading under the weight of sin and divine wrath. Therefore, the psalmist asks God to teach His people to number their days so that they may gain a heart of wisdom and be filled with His steadfast love. He also prays that God’s compassion, glory, and favor would rest upon His servants and establish the work of their hands.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom (v. 12).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Most people know that one day they will die. History clearly shows that even those who longed for a long life and tried every possible means eventually returned to dust. And yet, we often see people living as though they will never die. To preserve their social status, they cruelly oppress and exploit others. For the sake of money, they do not hesitate even to take human life. Though they know they cannot take anything with them when they die, they still strive to possess everything and refuse to let go of anything, using whatever means necessary. Why, then, do people continue in such foolish and evil behavior, only to end their lives in emptiness?

Scripture offers an important insight into this condition. Verse 12 tells us that we live evil and futile lives because we do not know how to number our days rightly. Therefore, the psalmist asks for a heart of wisdom—that is, for God’s wisdom. Indeed, if we have the wisdom to realize that the God who lives from everlasting to everlasting governs our lives and desires to give us eternal life as a gift, we will not waste our short lives on this earth in evil and vanity.

Beloved saints, we must rejoice during our lives on this earth, because the beauty of the LORD our God rests upon us. Do not use the brevity of life as an excuse to chase after empty things. Rather, even in our limited days, let us delight in obeying God’s will and in living lives that bring glory to Him.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • What am I currently pursuing that may not last?
  • Where have I been living as if I have unlimited time?
  • How can I seek God’s wisdom in the way I use my time, energy, and priorities?
  • What would it look like for me to live today with eternity in view?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, teach me to number my days.

Help me not to waste my life on things that do not last.

Fill me with Your steadfast love, give me a heart of wisdom, and establish the work of my hands for Your glory.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– (Psalm 90:1-17, ESV).

1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place
      in all generations.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth,
      or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
      from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

3 You return man to dust
      and say, “Return, O children of man!”
4 For a thousand years in your sight
      are but as yesterday when it is past,
      or as a watch in the night.

5 You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,
      like grass that is renewed in the morning:
6 in the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
      in the evening it fades and withers.

7 For we are brought to an end by your anger;
      by your wrath we are dismayed.
8 You have set our iniquities before you,
      our secret sins in the light of your presence.

9 For all our days pass away under your wrath;
      we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10 The years of our life are seventy,
        or even by reason of strength eighty;
      yet their span is but toil and trouble;
        they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11 Who considers the power of your anger,
        and your wrath according to the fear of you?

12 So teach us to number our days
       that we may get a heart of wisdom.
13 Return, O LORD! How long?
       Have pity on your servants!
14 Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,
       that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.
15 Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,
       and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16 Let your work be shown to your servants,
       and your glorious power to their children.
17 Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
       and establish the work of our hands upon us;
       yes, establish the work of our hands!
