πŸ‘‘ The Lord Reigns Over Every Idol in Your Life | Psalm 96 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to open your eyes to see that He alone is worthy of your worship and trust.

2. πŸ“… April 13, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

The Lord alone is God—the Creator, King, and Judge worthy of all worship.

3. ✝️ Psalm 96:1-13

Psalm 96 calls all the earth to sing a new song to the LORD and proclaim His salvation day by day. Unlike the worthless idols of the nations, the LORD alone made the heavens and reigns with splendor, majesty, strength, and beauty. As He comes to judge the world in righteousness and faithfulness, all creation rejoices before Him.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens (v. 5).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

For those who do not believe in God, the confession that the LORD alone is the one true God is not easy to accept. The claim that only God is the true God, and that all other gods are idols, is often regarded as merely a belief held by Jews or Christians, with no relevance to their own lives. Many people therefore find it easier to accept the idea that many gods exist. From that perspective, the confession that God created the heavens and the earth and still rules over them may seem like nothing more than a groundless claim.

Then how can we, as Christians, believe that the LORD created the heavens and the earth and governs them? Especially since God the Creator far exceeds the limits of our understanding, how can we believe in Him and acknowledge Him? We can find the answer in Paul’s letter to the church in Rome.

“For what can be known about God is plain among them, because God has shown it to them. For since the creation of the world, His invisible attributes—His eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” (Romans 1:19–20)

Beloved saints, the reason the heavens rejoice, the earth is glad, and the sea, the fields, and the forests sing for joy is the LORD alone. He is the Creator, and even now He is the sovereign ruler who governs all things. Therefore, we have no reason not to believe in Him. May you today overcome the world with courage, firmly trusting that God is the One who made the heavens and the earth and still reigns over them.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • What “idols” are competing for my trust and devotion right now?
  • In what area of my life am I tempted to rely on something other than God?
  • How does remembering that “the LORD reigns” change the way I face stress, uncertainty, or fear today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, You alone are God.

You made the heavens, and You reign over all things.

Help me turn away from idols that cannot save and teach me to worship You with my whole heart.

Give me courage to trust You today and to live in a way that points others to Your glory.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– (Psalm 96:1-13, ESV).

1 Oh sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! 2 Sing to the LORD, bless his name; tell of his salvation from day to day. 3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples! 4 For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; he is to be feared above all gods. 5 For all the gods of the peoples are worthless idols, but the LORD made the heavens. 6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and beauty are in his sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength! 8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering, and come into his courts! 9 Worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness; tremble before him, all the earth!

10 Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns! Yes, the world is established; it shall never be moved; he will judge the peoples with equity.”

11 Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice; let the sea roar, and all that fills it; 12 let the field exult, and everything in it! Then shall all the trees of the forest sing for joy 13 before the LORD, for he comes, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness, and the peoples in his faithfulness.
