Not Enough? Watch What Jesus Does π | Matthew 14 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask Jesus to open your eyes to His compassion—and to show you one small step of faith you can take today.
2. π February 17, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Jesus’ compassion meets our need—and He invites us to participate, even when we feel “not enough.”
3. ✝️ Matthew 14:13-21
Jesus withdrew to a desolate place, but when the crowds followed him, he had compassion on them and healed their sick. As evening came, the disciples urged him to send the crowds away for food, but Jesus told them, “You give them something to eat,” and had them bring five loaves and two fish to him. After blessing the food and distributing it through the disciples, everyone ate and was satisfied, twelve baskets were left over, and about five thousand men ate besides women and children.
4. π Key Verse
And he had compassion on them (v. 14b)
5. π Reflection
Is there any miracle as widely known as the sign where Jesus fed five thousand men with five barley loaves and two fish? This event comforts many people because it shows that Jesus cares not only about our spiritual hunger but also about our physical hunger, and that He provides according to our need. In reality, far more people live with physical lack and hunger than we might assume. That is why this miracle remains a deep encouragement today. Many believers also pray and plead that this sign would take place in their own lives.
Yet what we must truly notice in this miracle is not merely the outcome—“five thousand ate and there were leftovers”—but the motive: why Jesus performed this sign. Jesus looked at the crowd and had compassion on them. So He healed the sick and taught them the message of God’s kingdom. Then He also met their hunger. Yes, Jesus heals, teaches, and feeds us out of compassionate love. The reason we receive healing, gain understanding, and experience fullness is the mercy and love Jesus has toward us.
Beloved saints, we know that we have been saved because of God’s hesed—His steadfast, unfailing love. And God calls us to practice that love in our lives. Our salvation began with that love, the grace we enjoy in this world flows from that love, and the eternal life we will share with God in His kingdom will also be because of that love. Therefore, let us share that love with our neighbors today. With a warm word and a cup of tea, may you spend this day proclaiming the blessed news: “God loves you.”

Jesus, thank You for seeing me with compassion.
When I feel empty or overwhelmed, help me bring what I have to You.

Scriptures
π 13 Now when Jesus heard this, he withdrew from there in a boat to a desolate place by himself. But when the crowds heard it, they followed him on foot from the towns. 14 When he went ashore he saw a great crowd, and he had compassion on them and healed their sick. 15 Now when it was evening, the disciples came to him and said, “This is a desolate place, and the day is now over; send the crowds away to go into the villages and buy food for themselves.” 16 But Jesus said, “They need not go away; you give them something to eat.” 17 They said to him, “We have only five loaves here and two fish.” 18 And he said, “Bring them here to me.” 19 Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass, and taking the five loaves and the two fish, he looked up to heaven and said a blessing. Then he broke the loaves and gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. 21 And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children (Matthew 14:13-21, ESV).
