πŸ’Ž Is God’s Kingdom Worth Your Whole Life? | Matthew 13 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to open your heart to truly understand the value of His kingdom.

2. πŸ“… February 15, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

The kingdom of heaven is worth everything—and unbelief can keep us from experiencing it.

3. ✝️ Matthew 13:44-58

Jesus teaches that the kingdom of heaven is of supreme value, like hidden treasure or a pearl worth selling everything to obtain. He also explains that at the end of the age the righteous and the wicked will be separated, and that those trained for the kingdom bring forth both new and old treasures. Yet in His hometown, Jesus is rejected because of unbelief, and He does not perform many mighty works there.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

“Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” (v. 51)

5. πŸ“ Reflection

When I was in elementary school, a teacher known for being very strict became our homeroom teacher. Students from other classes teased us, saying we were in big trouble. On the first day of school, during the very first class, our teacher opened the classroom door and walked in. At that moment, we were all so tense that no one could make a sound. The first impression was truly frightening.

Yet as time passed and we came to know the teacher better, that same teacher became someone we would remember with gratitude for the rest of our lives. The teacher cared deeply for us and taught not only academics but also life itself with joy and devotion. One phrase the teacher often used at the end of lessons was exactly the question Jesus asks in today’s passage:

“Have you understood all these things?”

Today, Jesus continues to explain parables about the kingdom of heaven, and at the end, He asks His disciples whether they have understood His teaching. It may sound like a routine question a teacher asks after a lesson. But Jesus, who revealed the hidden treasures of the kingdom of heaven, seems to be asking not only the disciples but also us who are reading this Scripture today. Like my childhood teacher who appeared strict yet was endlessly warm, this question reflects Jesus’ loving heart, desiring us to understand His teaching and enjoy the joy of the kingdom of heaven.

Dear brothers and sisters, the Bible is not merely a record of God’s words listed one after another. It is filled with God’s boundless love for us. It is a book overflowing with God’s desire for us to understand His word, live it out, and enjoy its abundant blessings. Perhaps that is why the Bible is often called God’s love letter. I sincerely pray that you experience the joy of reading and understanding God’s word today, and that you enjoy the great and marvelous blessings God gives to those who live according to His word.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • What do I currently value most in my daily life?
  • Where might familiarity with Jesus be dulling my faith or expectations?
  • What would it look like for me to treat God’s kingdom as my greatest treasure today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, help me truly understand the value of Your kingdom.

Expose any unbelief or misplaced priorities in my heart.

Teach me to treasure You above everything else.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 44 “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.

45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls, 46 who, on finding one pearl of great value, went and sold all that he had and bought it.

47 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was thrown into the sea and gathered fish of every kind. 48 When it was full, men drew it ashore and sat down and sorted the good into containers but threw away the bad. 49 So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come out and separate the evil from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

51 “Have you understood all these things?” They said to him, “Yes.” 52 And he said to them, “Therefore every scribe who has been trained for the kingdom of heaven is like a master of a house, who brings out of his treasure what is new and what is old.”

53 And when Jesus had finished these parables, he went away from there, 54 and coming to his hometown he taught them in their synagogue, so that they were astonished, and said, “Where did this man get this wisdom and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter’s son? Is not his mother called Mary? And are not his brothers James and Joseph and Simon and Judas? 56 And are not all his sisters with us? Where then did this man get all these things?” 57 And they took offense at him. But Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor except in his hometown and in his own household.” 58 And he did not do many mighty works there, because of their unbelief (Matthew 13:44-58, ESV).
