Perfect Love Drives Out Fear ❤️ | 1 John 4 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to show you what His perfect love looks like—and how to live it out today.

2. πŸ“… January 7, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

Perfect love drives out fear and frees us to love others boldly.

3. ✝️ Scripture: 1 John 4:13–21

We know we belong to God because His Spirit lives in us. The Father sent Jesus as Savior, and whoever confesses Him lives in God. God is love, and those who live in love live in Him. Perfect love casts out fear, giving confidence for judgment. We love because God loved us first, and anyone who claims to love God must also love others.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love (v. 18).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Let’s be honest—loving people isn’t always easy. Sometimes love brings anxiety: Do they really care? What if they stop loving me? We fear rejection, hurt, and even sounding clingy. Human love often feels fragile.

But today’s passage introduces a different kind of love—God’s perfect love. It starts with Him, not us. He loved us first and proved it through Jesus. When we confess Jesus as God’s Son, we experience a love that removes fear. No worry, no insecurity—just freedom to love others boldly.

So, who can you love today? A friend, a coworker, maybe even someone difficult? God’s love in you makes it possible.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Where do I feel fear or insecurity in relationships?
  • How does God’s perfect love free me from that fear?
  • Who is God calling me to love boldly today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, thank You for loving me first.

Help me live in Your perfect love and cast out fear.

Teach me to love others boldly and freely today.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 13 By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 17 By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love. 19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen. 21 And this commandment we have from him: whoever loves God must also love his brother (1 John 4:13-21, ESV).
