Joshua’s Victory Over Giants: Why Trust and Obedience Matter | Joshua 11 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to strengthen your faith so you trust His promises completely.

2. πŸ“… December 2, 2025

Today’s passage reminds us:

God always keeps His promises—trust Him and obey fully.

3. ✝️ Joshua 11:16-23

Joshua and Israel conquer all the land—north, south, east, and west—just as God promised. Every city falls, and its inhabitants are destroyed. Remarkably, none of the Anakim remain except in a few Philistine cities. These were the giants who once terrified Israel and caused rebellion. Now, God’s promise is fulfilled, and the land rests from war.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain (v. 22).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Think about this: The Anakim were the giants that scared Israel years earlier, leading to fear and rebellion (Numbers 13:33). That generation died in the wilderness because they doubted God’s promise. But Joshua and Caleb—who trusted God—now see the promise fulfilled.

What does this teach us? God’s promises never fail, but unbelief can keep us from experiencing them. The giants that once seemed impossible to defeat are gone because Joshua trusted and obeyed.

In your life, what “giants” make you doubt God’s plan—career uncertainty, relationship struggles, financial pressure? Don’t let fear lead to rebellion. Trust God’s Word, obey Him fully, and watch Him do what He promised.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Where am I tempted to doubt God’s promises?
  • What “giants” in my life feel overwhelming?
  • How can I choose trust and obedience today?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, help me trust Your promises even when fear rises.

Give me courage to obey You fully.

Thank You that Your Word never fails.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 16 So Joshua took all that land, the hill country and all the Negeb and all the land of Goshen and the lowland and the Arabah and the hill country of Israel and its lowland 17 from Mount Halak, which rises toward Seir, as far as Baal-gad in the Valley of Lebanon below Mount Hermon. And he captured all their kings and struck them and put them to death. 18 Joshua made war a long time with all those kings. 19 There was not a city that made peace with the people of Israel except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon. They took them all in battle. 20 For it was the LORD’s doing to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, in order that they should be devoted to destruction and should receive no mercy but be destroyed, just as the LORD commanded Moses. 21 And Joshua came at that time and cut off the Anakim from the hill country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill country of Judah, and from all the hill country of Israel. Joshua devoted them to destruction with their cities. 22 There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the people of Israel. Only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod did some remain. 23 So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had spoken to Moses. And Joshua gave it for an inheritance to Israel according to their tribal allotments. And the land had rest from war (Joshua 11:16-23, ESV).
