Disobedience Destroys πŸ’” | Joshua 22 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to reveal why obedience matters and how to guard your heart from compromise.

2. πŸ“… December 22, 2025

Today’s passage reminds us:

Disobedience destroys. Guard your heart and choose obedience.

3. ✝️ Joshua 22:10–20

After returning home, the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh built a large altar by the Jordan. When the rest of Israel heard this, they gathered at Shiloh, ready for war, fearing rebellion against the LORD. They sent Phinehas and ten leaders to confront them, reminding them of past sins like Peor and Achan’s disobedience, which brought judgment on all Israel. They urged the eastern tribes not to rebel by building an unauthorized altar and even offered them land near the LORD’s tabernacle if their land was unclean.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

And when the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered at Shiloh to make war against them (v. 12).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

This is intense—God’s people almost went to war with each other! Why? Because they knew what disobedience costs. They remembered Peor and Achan—sins that brought death and disaster. They weren’t willing to let rebellion take root again.

Here’s the truth: sin doesn’t stay private. It spreads. It destroys. The Israelites were willing to fight to keep their community holy. What about us? We often tolerate hidden sins—habits, addictions, compromises—thinking they only affect us. But they poison our hearts and relationships.

Friends, Jesus gave His life to free us from sin’s grip. Don’t settle for chains He already broke. Cut off what pulls you away from God. Obedience isn’t about legalism—it’s about life. Eternal life is yours—live like it today.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Where am I tolerating compromise instead of obedience?
  • What hidden habit do I need to surrender to God today?
  • How can I help others pursue holiness without judgment but with love?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, help me take sin seriously.

Give me courage to obey You fully and cut off anything that dishonors You.

Make my life a testimony of Your grace and holiness.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 10 And when they came to the region of the Jordan that is in the land of Canaan, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by the Jordan, an altar of imposing size. 11 And the people of Israel heard it said, “Behold, the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have built the altar at the frontier of the land of Canaan, in the region about the Jordan, on the side that belongs to the people of Israel.” 12 And when the people of Israel heard of it, the whole assembly of the people of Israel gathered at Shiloh to make war against them.

13 Then the people of Israel sent to the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, 14 and with him ten chiefs, one from each of the tribal families of Israel, every one of them the head of a family among the clans of Israel. 15 And they came to the people of Reuben, the people of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh, in the land of Gilead, and they said to them, 16 “Thus says the whole congregation of the LORD, ‘What is this breach of faith that you have committed against the God of Israel in turning away this day from following the LORD by building yourselves an altar this day in rebellion against the LORD? 17 Have we not had enough of the sin at Peor from which even yet we have not cleansed ourselves, and for which there came a plague upon the congregation of the LORD, 18 that you too must turn away this day from following the LORD? And if you too rebel against the LORD today then tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel. 19 But now, if the land of your possession is unclean, pass over into the LORD’s land where the LORD’s tabernacle stands, and take for yourselves a possession among us. Only do not rebel against the LORD or make us as rebels by building for yourselves an altar other than the altar of the LORD our God. 20 Did not Achan the son of Zerah break faith in the matter of the devoted things, and wrath fell upon all the congregation of Israel? And he did not perish alone for his iniquity.’ ” (Joshua 22:10-20, ESV).
