God’s Faithfulness Across Generations πŸ‘¨‍πŸ‘©‍πŸ‘§‍πŸ‘¦ | Joshua 4 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you trust His promises and honor Him in every generation.

2. πŸ“… November 17, 2025

Today’s passage reminds us:
God’s faithfulness spans generations—trust Him fully.

3. ✝️ Joshua 4:15–5:1

God commands Joshua to bring the priests out of the Jordan after the crossing is complete. As soon as the ark leaves the river, the waters return to their place. Israel sets up twelve stones at Gilgal as a memorial so future generations will know God dried up the Jordan just as He did the Red Sea. This sign assures that God will fulfill His promises. The Canaanite kings hear of the miracle and their hearts melt in fear, knowing the LORD fights for Israel.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over (v. 23)

5. πŸ“ Reflection

God’s miracles are not random—they are reminders of His faithfulness. Just as He parted the Red Sea for the first generation, He parted the Jordan for the next. The twelve stones at Gilgal were a visual testimony for future generations: God keeps His promises.

We live in a world obsessed with “what’s next,” often forgetting what God has already done. But remembering His past faithfulness strengthens our trust for today and tomorrow. If God was faithful then, He will be faithful now.

So, what “stones” are you setting up in your life to remind you—and others—of God’s goodness? Journaling, sharing testimonies, or even a simple prayer of thanks can be your memorial.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • How can I remind myself daily of God’s past faithfulness?
  • What fears do I need to surrender, trusting God’s promises?
  • How can I share God’s goodness with the next generation?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, thank You for Your faithfulness through every generation.
Help me remember Your works and trust Your promises.
Teach me to live in a way that points others to Your glory.
Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 15 And the LORD said to Joshua, 16 “Command the priests bearing the ark of the testimony to come up out of the Jordan.” 17 So Joshua commanded the priests, “Come up out of the Jordan.” 18 And when the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up from the midst of the Jordan, and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up on dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and overflowed all its banks, as before.

19 The people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month, and they encamped at Gilgal on the east border of Jericho. 20 And those twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan, Joshua set up at Gilgal. 21 And he said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ 22 then you shall let your children know, ‘Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground.’ 23 For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the LORD your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, 24 so that all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the LORD is mighty, that you may fear the LORD your God forever.”

1 As soon as all the kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to the west, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the LORD had dried up the waters of the Jordan for the people of Israel until they had crossed over, their hearts melted and there was no longer any spirit in them because of the people of Israel (Joshua 4:15-5:1 ESV).
