Before the Miracle: Why Listening to God Matters π | Joshua 3 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to give you a heart that listens deeply and responds faithfully to His Word.
2. π November 15, 2025
Today’s passage reminds us:
Before God does something amazing, He calls us to listen.
3. ✝️ Joshua 3:9–17
Before crossing the Jordan River, Joshua calls the Israelites to listen to God’s Word. God promises to show His power by stopping the flow of the river so the people can cross on dry ground. The priests carrying the ark of the covenant are to step into the river first, and as they do, the waters will be cut off and stand in a heap. This miraculous event confirms God’s presence and leadership, assuring the people that He is with them as they enter the Promised Land.
4. π Key Verse
“Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.” (v. 9b)
5. π Reflection
We live in a noisy world. Notifications, opinions, and endless content compete for our attention. Listening—especially to God—isn’t easy. It requires slowing down, being still, and opening our hearts.
Joshua’s call to “come and listen” is a reminder that before we move, we must hear. Before we act, we must align with God’s voice. The Israelites were about to step into the unknown, but their confidence came from hearing God’s promise.
Today, God invites you to draw near and listen. Not just with your ears, but with your heart. What if the breakthrough you’re waiting for begins with quiet trust and attentive listening?
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where in my life do I need to slow down and listen to God more intentionally?
- What distractions are keeping me from hearing His voice clearly?
- How can I create space today to hear and respond to God’s Word?
7. π Prayer
Lord, help me to quiet my heart and listen to Your voice.
Teach me to trust Your Word more than my own understanding.
Prepare me for the amazing things You want to do in my life.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 9 And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “Come here and listen to the words of the LORD your God.” 10 And Joshua said, “Here is how you shall know that the living God is among you and that he will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Hivites, the Perizzites, the Girgashites, the Amorites, and the Jebusites. 11 Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the earth is passing over before you into the Jordan. 12 Now therefore take twelve men from the tribes of Israel, from each tribe a man. 13 And when the soles of the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the LORD, the Lord of all the earth, shall rest in the waters of the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan shall be cut off from flowing, and the waters coming down from above shall stand in one heap.”
14 So when the people set out from their tents to pass over the Jordan with the priests bearing the ark of the covenant before the people, 15 and as soon as those bearing the ark had come as far as the Jordan, and the feet of the priests bearing the ark were dipped in the brink of the water (now the Jordan overflows all its banks throughout the time of harvest), 16 the waters coming down from above stood and rose up in a heap very far away, at Adam, the city that is beside Zarethan, and those flowing down toward the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt Sea, were completely cut off. And the people passed over opposite Jericho. 17 Now the priests bearing the ark of the covenant of the LORD stood firmly on dry ground in the midst of the Jordan, and all Israel was passing over on dry ground until all the nation finished passing over the Jordan (Joshua 3:9-17, ESV).
