God’s Mercy for the Worst of Sinners — 1 Timothy 1 Devotional

God's Perfect Patience

7-Step QT

  3. ✝️ 1 Timothy 1:12-20
  4. πŸ“– The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life (vv. 15-16).
  5. πŸ“ Paul’s confession isn’t just personal—it’s universal. We’re all saved by grace, not by effort. Whether our sins seem greater or smaller, salvation comes only through faith in Jesus. Paul reminds Timothy—and us—that Christ came to save sinners. This truth is the foundation of our hope and calling.

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

No matter your past, God’s mercy is greater.

He’s not done with your story—He’s just getting started.

2. πŸ“… July 9, 2025

Today is a reminder that grace isn’t earned—it’s received.

And if God can use Paul, He can use you too.

3. ✝️ 1 Timothy 1:12–20

Paul reflects on his past—how he was once a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent man.

Yet Jesus didn’t reject him. He showed him mercy.

Why? So that Paul’s life would be a living example of God’s perfect patience for all who would believe.

This isn’t just Paul’s story—it’s ours too.

4. πŸ“– Key Verses

“Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost.
But I received mercy… that Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience…” (vv. 15-16).

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Paul’s confession isn’t just personal—it’s universal.

He’s saying: “If God can save me, He can save anyone.”

πŸ’‘ Think about this:

  • You don’t have to be “good enough” for God to use you.
  • Your past doesn’t disqualify you—it highlights His mercy.
  • Your story can become someone else’s hope.

Paul urges Timothy (and us) to never forget this truth:

Jesus came to save sinners.

And He’s still doing it—through people like you.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Do you ever feel like your past disqualifies you from being used by God?
  • How does Paul’s story give you hope?
  • Who in your life needs to hear that God’s mercy is for them too?

“Jesus, thank You for showing me mercy. Even when I was far from You, You were patient with me. Use my story to show others that no one is too far gone for Your grace.”

Scriptures

πŸ“– 12 I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, 13 though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, 14 and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. 15 The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. 16 But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. 17 To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.

18 This charge I entrust to you, Timothy, my child, in accordance with the prophecies previously made about you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 holding faith and a good conscience. By rejecting this, some have made shipwreck of their faith, 20 among whom are Hymenaeus and Alexander, whom I have handed over to Satan that they may learn not to blaspheme (1 Tim 1:12-20, ESV).
