✨ Hope in Uncertain Times | Matthew 24 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to give you discernment, endurance, and hope as you listen to His Word today.
2. π March 18, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
The pain of this world is real, but it is not the end—God calls us to endure with hope and keep living for the gospel.
3. ✝️ Matthew 24:1-14
Jesus foretells the destruction of the temple and teaches that false christs, wars, famines, and earthquakes will come before the end, but these are only the beginning of the birth pains. He warns that His disciples will face tribulation, hatred, deception, and growing lawlessness, yet the one who endures to the end will be saved. Before the end comes, the gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations.
4. π Key Verse
“All these are but the beginning of the birth pains” (v. 8).
5. π Reflection
This happened when our first child was born. My wife suffered through long hours of labor, and the doctor kindly explained that such pain is common with a first delivery. Yet as I watched her continue to struggle, even the doctor’s gentle words felt unbearably cold to me.
In the end, however, the baby was born safely. My wife, who had endured the greatest pain, welcomed the child with the happiest smile in the world, as if she had never suffered at all. The moment she saw the baby, it seemed as though all the agony of labor had disappeared.
Today, Jesus’ teaching to His disciples about the end of the age sounds very dark. False Christs will arise and deceive many people. Wars, famines, and earthquakes will occur in various places. In particular, Jesus’ disciples will be persecuted, hated, and even put to death. The world will become increasingly filled with hatred, lawlessness, and confusion.
Yet Jesus tells us that all these things are like labor pains before childbirth. This suffering will not last forever; it will surely pass, and salvation awaits at the end. Therefore, instead of despair, hope begins to rise within us.
Beloved saints, if our end were only death, and if there were nothing beyond it, how empty would that be? Dying amid war, persecution, hatred, and lawlessness in the last days would already seem tragic enough. But if there were no hope beyond death, that emptiness would be beyond words.
However, for the disciples of Jesus, death is never the end. Though they must pass through pain like labor, just as joy comes with the birth of a child, so they too will finally experience the joy of salvation. That is why the disciples do not fear the end but continue to proclaim the gospel of the kingdom to the very end.
May you also, with this same hope today, boldly proclaim the gospel.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- What in my life is making me feel anxious, shaken, or afraid right now?
- Am I being shaped more by fear and confusion, or by the truth of Jesus’ Word?
- In what area has my love grown cold, and how is God calling me to endure in faith?
- How can I live as a witness to the gospel today, even in a broken world?
7. π Prayer
Lord, when the world feels unstable, keep my heart steady in You.
Protect me from deception, strengthen me to endure, and keep my love from growing cold.
Fill me with hope, and help me live boldly for the gospel today.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 1 Jesus left the temple and was going away, when his disciples came to point out to him the buildings of the temple. 2 But he answered them, “You see all these, do you not? Truly, I say to you, there will not be left here one stone upon another that will not be thrown down.”
3 As he sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?” 4 And Jesus answered them, “See that no one leads you astray. 5 For many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, for this must take place, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and there will be famines and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are but the beginning of the birth pains. 9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10 And then many will fall away and betray one another and hate one another. 11 And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12 And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come (Matthew 24:1-14, ESV).
