πŸ™ Do You Really Trust God? | Matthew 22 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to help you know not only His Word, but also His power.

2. πŸ“… March 13, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

Real faith is not just knowing about God—it is trusting the living God.

3. ✝️ Matthew 22:23-33

The Sadducees, who denied the resurrection, asked Jesus whose wife a woman married to seven brothers would be in the resurrection. Jesus replied that they did not know the Scriptures or the power of God and taught that God is not the God of the dead, but of the living, affirming the resurrection.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

“You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God.” (v. 29b)

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Many believers who have attended church since childhood or for a long time tend to think that they know the Bible and God’s power well. Certainly, it is true that they may have accumulated much biblical knowledge through years of Bible study and sermons. However, when great suffering or hardship comes, they often discover that their faith collapses like a sandcastle. This is because true faith does not begin merely with knowledge about the Bible, but with trusting the Scriptures and the power of God.

When we say that we are saved by believing in the name of Jesus, that faith is not merely intellectual agreement. It is like knowing a celebrity well but not actually trusting that person. To believe in the name of Jesus means believing that Jesus died on the cross for us, was buried, and rose again on the third day. Furthermore, it means believing that Jesus is still alive even now and is able to work on our behalf.

Following the Pharisees, the Sadducees also came to Jesus. They were people who did not believe in the resurrection. Yet, like the Pharisees, they approached Jesus with evil intentions and questioned Him about the resurrection. In response, Jesus answered with remarkable wisdom and clarity. Resurrection means enjoying eternal life in the kingdom of God, in the presence of the living God.

Dear believers, the resurrection is indeed a precious truth, but our human knowledge alone has limits in fully understanding it. This is all the more so because resurrection cannot be directly experienced on this earth or fully explained by visible evidence. Yet this does not mean that our knowledge of Scripture and God’s power is restricted. For the Scriptures and the power of God are revealed to us through the Holy Spirit (cf. 1 Cor 2:10–12). Today, let us pray that through the Holy Spirit we may come to understand the gracious gifts of God and live by faith in His grace.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • In what area of my life do I know truth about God, but struggle to trust Him?
  • Am I treating faith as information, or as a relationship with the living Christ?
  • Where have I been relying more on my own understanding than on God’s power?
  • How can I live today in the confidence that Jesus is alive and at work?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord, keep me from knowing Your Word only in my mind without trusting You in my heart.

Teach me to know both the Scriptures and the power of God.

Help me live today by faith in the risen Jesus, who is alive and working even now.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 23 The same day Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection, and they asked him a question, 24 saying, “Teacher, Moses said, ‘If a man dies having no children, his brother must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother.’ 25 Now there were seven brothers among us. The first married and died, and having no offspring left his wife to his brother. 26 So too the second and third, down to the seventh. 27 After them all, the woman died. 28 In the resurrection, therefore, of the seven, whose wife will she be? For they all had her.” 29 But Jesus answered them, “You are wrong, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God. 30 For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels in heaven. 31 And as for the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was said to you by God: 32 ‘I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not God of the dead, but of the living.” 33 And when the crowd heard it, they were astonished at his teaching (Matthew 22:23-33, ESV).
