⏳ Be Ready and Stay Faithful as a Wise Servant | Matthew 24 Devotional (7-Step QT)
7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to keep your heart awake and teach you what it means to live as a faithful and wise servant.
2. π March 21, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Since we do not know when Christ will return, we must live faithfully and stay spiritually awake every day.
3. ✝️ Matthew 24:36–51
Jesus teaches that only the Father knows the day and the hour, and that the coming of the Son of Man will be sudden and unexpected, just as in the days of Noah. Therefore, His disciples must stay awake and be ready at all times for the Lord’s return. He also warns that the faithful and wise servant will be blessed and rewarded, but the wicked servant who grows careless and abusive will face judgment.
4. π Key Verse
“Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time?” (v. 45)
5. π Reflection
Jesus’ words that no one knows the day or the hour—not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father—are truly astonishing. If even Jesus did not know, we may feel overwhelmed, wondering what we are supposed to do and whether we can possibly escape the tribulation of the last days. Then why did Jesus speak these words to His disciples, words that could leave us feeling discouraged?
First, we must understand the truth that Jesus came to this earth as true God and at the same time true man. Though this truth may seem difficult, it is precisely because God came in human flesh and paid the price for our sins that we are able to receive salvation. When Jesus said that He did not know the day or the hour, He was revealing His identity as the One who came to this world also as a true human being.
Another important truth is that even though the day and the hour are unknown—even to Jesus in this sense—the faithful and wise servant has no reason to be afraid. Noah was such a faithful and wise servant, building the ark for more than seventy years. Though he was despised and mocked by the people of the world, he continued to obey God’s word and built the ark to the end. As a result, his family was saved.
Beloved saints, I sincerely pray that before Jesus’ call in verse 45, each of you would confess in faith, “I will be that servant.” Even if all the nations of the earth mourn on the last day, the faithful and wise servant will instead welcome the returning Jesus with gratitude. Today, let us resolve to become faithful and wise servants. Let us obey the mission our Master has entrusted to us. That is the wisest way for us to view that day and that hour.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Where in my life have I become spiritually distracted or sleepy?
- Am I more focused on knowing God’s timing, or on being faithful today?
- What has God entrusted to me right now that I need to handle with greater faithfulness?
- If Jesus returned today, what would He find me doing?
7. π Prayer
Lord, keep my heart awake and faithful.
Help me not to become distracted, careless, or spiritually dull.
Teach me to live each day as a wise servant who is ready for Your return.
Use my life to honor You in the ordinary things.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 36 “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. 37 For as were the days of Noah, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 38 For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, 39 and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 40 Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. 41 Two women will be grinding at the mill; one will be taken and one left. 42 Therefore, stay awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. 43 But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. 44 Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect. 45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 47 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions. 48 But if that wicked servant says to himself, ‘My master is delayed,’ 49 and begins to beat his fellow servants and eats and drinks with drunkards, 50 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know 51 and will cut him in pieces and put him with the hypocrites. In that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 24:36-51, ESV).
