When Anxiety Hits 😰 Jesus Comes Close ✨ | Matthew 1 Devotional (7-Step QT)

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause.

Take a deep breath.

Ask God to quiet the loudest voices in your mind so you can truly hear Jesus today.

2. πŸ“… February 24, 2026

Today’s passage reminds us:

When fear overwhelms us, God doesn’t shame us—He draws near and tells us to listen to His Son.

3. ✝️ Matthew 17:1-13

Jesus took Peter, James, and John up a high mountain, where he was transfigured before them and Moses and Elijah appeared, talking with him. A bright cloud overshadowed them and the Father’s voice declared, “This is my beloved Son… listen to him,” and though the disciples were terrified, Jesus touched them and said, “Rise, and have no fear.” Coming down, Jesus told them to speak of the vision only after his resurrection and explained that Elijah has already come and was not recognized, so the Son of Man will also suffer, and they understood he meant John the Baptist.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

“Rise, and have no fear.” (v. 7b)

5. πŸ“ Reflection

When we face something we cannot understand, we first react emotionally with shock. After a little time passes, we begin to analyze the situation rationally and search for solutions. Yet when we finally meet a limit we cannot overcome, our hearts sink and fear enters. Fear often grows when we confront a reality we cannot control and the boundaries of our own strength.

When fear rises beyond a certain level, it can place intense strain on both mind and body, spreading into struggles such as depression, anxiety, or panic. At times it can even press us toward the edge of giving up on life. That is why fear should never be treated lightly.

This is also why Scripture repeatedly warns us about fear, encourages us to overcome it, and at times clearly commands, “Do not be afraid.” Some say this phrase appears 365 (or 366) times in the Bible to highlight God’s comfort, but it is difficult to insist on an exact number. Still, one thing is certain: God cares deeply about our fear. And whenever God says, “Do not be afraid,” there is always a reason—most often tied to His presence, His protection, and His promises.

As long as we live on this earth, fear will not disappear completely. Yet when we hold fast to God’s presence, protection, and promises, we do not have to be ruled by fear. Scripture teaches us not a life without fear, but a life that trusts God and keeps walking even in the midst of fear.

Beloved brothers and sisters, what fear is shaking your heart today? Has that fear made God’s presence, protection, and promises feel uncertain? If so, open the Bible, read His Word, and pray while holding tightly to it. The same Jesus who comforted His disciples and said, “Do not be afraid,” will speak to us in the same way today.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • What fear is making you feel “stuck” right now—future, money, relationships, work, health, or identity?
  • What would it look like to “rise” today in one small step of obedience (a conversation, a decision, asking for help, setting a boundary)?
  • Where do you need to replace “I have to control this” with “Jesus is with me in this”?
  • Is there something God is asking you to hold quietly for now—trusting His timing instead of rushing to prove or post?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

Lord Jesus, when I’m overwhelmed, draw near to me.

Help me listen to You above every anxious voice.

Touch the places in me that are afraid, and give me courage to rise.

Teach me to trust Your presence and Your timing—even when I don’t understand the path.

Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 1 And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James, and John his brother, and led them up a high mountain by themselves. 2 And he was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light. 3 And behold, there appeared to them Moses and Elijah, talking with him. 4 And Peter said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good that we are here. If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” 6 When the disciples heard this, they fell on their faces and were terrified. 7 But Jesus came and touched them, saying, “Rise, and have no fear.” 8 And when they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only. 9 And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus commanded them, “Tell no one the vision, until the Son of Man is raised from the dead.” 10 And the disciples asked him, “Then why do the scribes say that first Elijah must come?” 11 He answered, “Elijah does come, and he will restore all things. 12 But I tell you that Elijah has already come, and they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they pleased. So also the Son of Man will certainly suffer at their hands.” 13 Then the disciples understood that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist (Matthew 17:1-13, ESV).
