2. π January 9, 2026
Today’s passage reminds us:
Prayer isn’t about shortcuts—it’s about aligning with God’s will and trusting His timing.
3. ✝️ 1 John 5:13–21
John writes to assure believers that they have eternal life in Christ. We can pray with confidence, knowing that when we ask according to God’s will, He hears and answers. We’re called to intercede for others, avoid persistent sin, and guard ourselves from idols. Through Jesus—the true God and eternal life—we belong to Him.
4. π Key Verse
And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him (vv. 14-15)
5. π Reflection
Our culture loves quick fixes—study hacks, health shortcuts, investment tips. We chase efficiency and call it wisdom. But lasting growth takes time and consistency. When results don’t come fast, we look for another shortcut—and the cycle repeats.
Christians often ask, “What’s the most effective way to pray?” At first glance, today’s verses sound like a formula: pray according to God’s will, and you’ll get what you ask. But this isn’t a trick—it’s a relationship. Knowing and following God’s will isn’t optional; it’s what His children do. And learning His will takes time, trust, and persistence.
Salvation happens instantly, but becoming like Christ—sanctification—is a lifelong journey. John reminds us to pray with confidence, keep asking, and guard our hearts from idols. Today, let’s commit to the long game: steady prayer, obedience, and trust in God’s timing.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- Do I treat prayer like a shortcut—or a relationship?
- Where do I need to trust God’s timing instead of rushing?
- How can I align my prayers with His will today?
7. π Prayer
Lord, thank You for hearing me when I pray.
Teach me to seek Your will above my own.
Help me trust Your timing and stay faithful in prayer.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.
16 If anyone sees his brother committing a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life—to those who commit sins that do not lead to death. There is sin that leads to death; I do not say that one should pray for that. 17 All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that does not lead to death.
18 We know that everyone who has been born of God does not keep on sinning, but he who was born of God protects him, and the evil one does not touch him.
19 We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.
20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding, so that we may know him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life. 21 Little children, keep yourselves from idols (1 John 5:13-21, ESV).
