  4. πŸ“– For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (v. 23).

  5. πŸ“ Eternal life isn’t earned; it’s God’s free gift through Christ. Our culture resists “free,” expecting to repay every favor. Many doubt grace because religion often teaches salvation by effort. But Romans declares: we can’t earn eternal life—it’s given by faith. So today, we confess again: everything is grace—our life now and our life in eternity.

7-Step QT Notes

1. πŸ™ Quiet Time

Pause. Take a deep breath. Ask God to remind you that His grace is a gift—and to help you live in that freedom today.

Today’s passage reminds us: Sin pays wages, but God gives gifts. Which one are you living for?

3. ✝️ Romans 6:15–23

Paul draws a sharp contrast:

  • Sin is a master that pays you with death.
  • God is a Father who gives you eternal life as a free gift in Christ.

You can’t serve both. You’re either a slave to sin or a servant of righteousness. But here’s the good news: in Christ, you’ve been set free from sin’s control and brought into a new life of holiness.

4. πŸ“– Key Verse

“For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (v. 23)

5. πŸ“ Reflection

Think about your paycheck. You work, you earn, you get paid. That’s how life works—except when it comes to salvation.

Paul says sin pays wages: death. It’s what we’ve earned by living for ourselves. But God doesn’t pay wages—He gives gifts. Eternal life isn’t a reward for good behavior; it’s a gift of grace through Jesus.

Our culture says, “You are what you achieve.” God says, “You are loved because of what Christ has done.”

So stop trying to earn what’s already been given. Live free, not striving for approval but resting in grace.

6. πŸ’¬ What does this passage speak to you today?

  • Where do I feel pressure to “earn” my worth—at work, school, or even with God?
  • How does knowing eternal life is a gift change the way I see myself?
  • What would it look like to live today as someone who already has God’s approval?

7. πŸ™ Prayer

God, thank You that I don’t have to earn Your love or eternal life. Help me rest in Your grace and live in freedom today. Teach me to serve You out of gratitude, not fear. Amen.

Scriptures

πŸ“– 15 What then? Are we to sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! 16 Do you not know that if you present yourselves to anyone as obedient slaves, you are slaves of the one whom you obey, either of sin, which leads to death, or of obedience, which leads to righteousness? 17 But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, 18 and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness. 19 I am speaking in human terms, because of your natural limitations. For just as you once presented your members as slaves to impurity and to lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves to righteousness leading to sanctification.

20 For when you were slaves of sin, you were free in regard to righteousness. 21 But what fruit were you getting at that time from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. 22 But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the fruit you get leads to sanctification and its end, eternal life. 23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord (Rom 6:15-23, ESV).
