✝️ Ezekiel 20:1-9
-
π Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD, Is it to inquire of me that you come? As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you (v. 3)
-
π David sought the Lord with humility and was delivered, but Israel’s elders were denied because their hearts lacked repentance. God does not ignore sincere seekers, but He calls for genuine turning, not empty inquiries. True seeking requires humility, surrender, and repentance—not just asking for answers without change.

7-Step QT Notes
1. π Quiet Time
Pause.
Take a deep breath.
Ask God to help you seek Him with a humble heart—not just for answers, but for true repentance and relationship.
2. π August 19, 2025
Today’s passage reminds us that God desires sincerity, not empty inquiries.
He doesn’t ignore us out of cruelty—but calls us to return with genuine hearts.
3. ✝️ Ezekiel 20:1–9
Israel’s elders came to “inquire of the Lord,”
but God refused to answer. Why?
Because their hearts were far from Him.
They wanted God’s help without surrendering their idols.
God reminds them of His faithfulness—but also calls them to repentance.
4. π Key Verse
“Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: Is it to inquire of me that you come? As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.” (v. 3)
5. π Reflection
God is not a “quick fix” for our problems.
He wants our hearts, not just our questions.
Like Israel’s elders, we sometimes seek God’s guidance
while clinging to habits, idols, or lifestyles that dishonor Him.
π‘ Application Point:
- Why do you seek God—answers or intimacy?
- Are there “idols” (career obsession, relationships, social media approval) you need to surrender?
- God is patient and faithful—but He calls us to return fully, not partially.
6. π¬ What does this passage speak to you today?
- What keeps you from fully surrendering to God?
- How can you seek Him with a repentant heart this week?
7. π Prayer
God, forgive me for seeking You without surrendering my heart.
Help me turn from idols and trust You completely.
I want more than answers—I want You.
Draw me back to Your love.
Amen.
Scriptures
π 1 In the seventh year, in the fifth month, on the tenth day of the month, certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me. 2 And the word of the LORD came to me: 3 “Son of man, speak to the elders of Israel, and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD, Is it to inquire of me that you come? As I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you. 4 Will you judge them, son of man, will you judge them? Let them know the abominations of their fathers, 5 and say to them, Thus says the Lord GOD: On the day when I chose Israel, I swore to the offspring of the house of Jacob, making myself known to them in the land of Egypt; I swore to them, saying, I am the LORD your God. 6 On that day I swore to them that I would bring them out of the land of Egypt into a land that I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands. 7 And I said to them, ‘Cast away the detestable things your eyes feast on, every one of you, and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt; I am the LORD your God.’ 8 But they rebelled against me and were not willing to listen to me. None of them cast away the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt. “Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them and spend my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt. 9 But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations among whom they lived, in whose sight I made myself known to them in bringing them out of the land of Egypt (Ezek 20:1-9, ESV).
